Pure Caffeine Powder...to be regulated?

The Food and Drug Administration is [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] pending its investigation into the death of 18-year-old Logan Stiner, who died on May 27 after consuming the powder. In the meantime, it is recommending that consumers avoid the substance.

Well, somebody died and now everybody knows it's dangerous. Just put that guy's face on the back of every bottle. Caution: killed this guy. Be careful. Still won't listen? It's your own fault. Everybody knows that heroin kills you, but people still think it's cool. People still think that standing up in the back of a moving pickup truck is cool. People still think cocaine is cool, even though it rots out the inside of your head and turns all your friends away before it kills you. Somewhere, some esoterically-minded person is attempting trapanation. People want to do dumb stuff, just to see what will happen. Society tells them, don't put your head on the railroad tracks, the train will decapitate you. But somewhere, somebody is still doing it.
The FDA will regulate it, too, just to see what will happen.

I'm afraid that I doubt regulation will push it to cocaine levels of profit :p

It's cheap (you can get 100g from a few £s) and something that, if taking, you should be taking no more than a couple hundred milligrams - so it's very easy to overdose on. Sadly that makes it a recipe for disaster for some people, pretty annoying seeing the vast majority of people who use it clearly aren't complete morons (taken the ease with which to OD and the number of people taking it).

Nothing beats the taste of a good espresso. Why would anyone want this crap? A teaspoon is 25 coffee equivalent. Screw that. More than five coffees and you start shaking and brain function is hindered not improved. Not endorsing them, but Amphetamines would be much safer and effective than caffeine powder for the desired effects.

It isn't designed to take the place of coffee.

You aren't meant to consume it by the teaspoon, I have always seen it listed with clear warnings about the maximum doses.

Not endorsing them, just talking nonsense. It isn't there to be taken for a high, it's there to be taken as a convenient source of caffeine, which you take a hundred mg or so at time. Quite commonly supplemented into a pre-workout drink.

If it was illegal, do you think that would prevent people from doing it if they wanted to? I could legally buy some liquor....but marijuana? Off to jail I go if I get caught. We all know marijuana is responsible for so many more deaths than alcohol, right? But it's all good....cuz no one does drugs because they're illegal. The system works.

My point is that if I chose to ingest a teaspoon of caffeine, I should be allowed to without being arrested, unless I'm doing it while operating a motor vehicle or in any other way potentially causing harm to anyone but myself.

My point is that since it's legal lots of kids and ill informed folks will get their hands on it and kill themselves. Weed doesn't do this. Booze will but you have to work at it. This stuff? Mix up a spoonful in water and drink it. Surprise, you're dead.
