Pussy Riot

Fascinating a poltical thread that hasn't been shut down in under 24 hours.

I love this story hopefully the people in Russia will take to social media and cause a change like in Egypt. Putin for too long has been dictating Russia it's time somebody new steped in however for Russia that maybe a very bad thing. Honestly I don't know much about the Russian poltical game so I can't really say if another "president" would actually be a good thing.

It's like that old saying sadly "It's the devil you know".

I'd say that any band who plays political music questioning the authority of their respective country should not be harrassed like a criminal sadly that's just my hope. Hopefully we can see that happen in my lifetime.

That's Valdimere Putin,

Ex KGB assasin, and doesn't care if the world knows when he has his enemies eliminated with a sushi polonium ala cart.

He's like the ultra right wing conservative of Russia so he's popular with that crowd.

These girls are lucky Putin isn't taking them serious.

I think Putin is a joke. What have these girls done said a prayer that what maybe a couple people heard? Now they are in jail for who knows how long because they stated an opinion an opnion again not very many people heard?

If you ask me Putin is a threat more than an ally to us. He over the years I just read has done stuff that is not only a poor presidental descison but, also a poor humanitarian decision if I was in Russia I'd have tried to overthrow him years ago. Why are these people thinking that he is a great leader? What is in their kool aid?

But.. Putin is awesome

You might be thinking of poutine...

What is in their kool aid?

Vodka

Do you get 2 years of forced labor too?
Now that you say it, people get jailed and beaten for non violent protesting in the street and it doesn't seem to generate many reactions.

If you had actually read my earlier posts, you'd see that taking this indignant tone is unnecessary. You can calm down now and put the self-righteousness away. We're all on the same team.

To repeat for those who haven't actually bothered to read: I thoroughly agree that what the Russian government has done here is to throw its weight against these women, unjustly, in order to suppress dissent and free speech. Got it. The only point I was making was that the penalties against the dissenters were indeed disproportionate. I can imagine a fine for trespassing or public disruption, on the principle that no, people can't just walk into a church and do whatever they **** well please and call it "free speech." But that would be it.

This is just one more episode - a pretty mild one compared to, say, the invasion of Georgia - to remind us that the bad old days of the Evil Empire are back.
