Fender 9050M Stainless Steel FlatwoundI picked up my third Precision last night. Just deciding what string to put on it since I have GHS Precision flats on one and Fender 7250M rounds on the other. Thinking about either putting Chromes or Dunlop flats on the new one.

so what? they sound bettertoo similar to chromes and higher tension.

If they're higher tension than I can play comfortably, it's gonna sound like $h!t.
The Fender Flats are nice. Chromes I can't stand. Never understood the love for them other than they sound somewhat like rounds for people who want to play flats but not have the flat sound. But everybody likes different things.
TI sounds great on my Jack Read P and '57 AVRI--very deep, lots of mids too, melodic and smooth. A little floppy.
That may well be true on the light 'cheese cutter' gauges. Not so on the heavier mediums.I've read that many people say they sound similar to Chromes.
Yes. Exceptionally fine work! Still in pristine condition.Did you buy that Read from me some years ago? Is it white with a white pearl pickguard? Maybe it wasn't you, but I have a feeling that was mine![]()

The Fenders sound different but are not tonal opposites by any means. They are more like Chromes than most others I would say, but I don't think they are Fender's version of Chromes from what I recall. Fender's seem to be moving more toward "real" flats than Chromes.Thats good to know. Chromes were my first foray into flats, then I discovered what "real" flats sounded like and started thinking the same thing about Chromes as being flats that sounded somewhat like rounds for people who wanted to play flats! My hesitation with the Fender flats were because I've read that many people say they sound similar to Chromes.

Fender 9050CL's is the way to the force my padawan. If you can locate a set. Good luck in your quest.
