Put on some GHS Precision Flats today...

I picked up my third Precision last night. Just deciding what string to put on it since I have GHS Precision flats on one and Fender 7250M rounds on the other. Thinking about either putting Chromes or Dunlop flats on the new one.

Two days ago.... Godzilla of tone!

The Fender Flats are nice. Chromes I can't stand. Never understood the love for them other than they sound somewhat like rounds for people who want to play flats but not have the flat sound. But everybody likes different things.

Thats good to know. Chromes were my first foray into flats, then I discovered what "real" flats sounded like and started thinking the same thing about Chromes as being flats that sounded somewhat like rounds for people who wanted to play flats! My hesitation with the Fender flats were because I've read that many people say they sound similar to Chromes.

TI sounds great on my Jack Read P and '57 AVRI--very deep, lots of mids too, melodic and smooth. A little floppy.

La Bella 760FL and FS on a couple--awesome, thumpy yet melodic.

GHS Precision medium gauge on another--awesome, woody and huge.

Sadowsky Black Label flats on another--awesome in all respects.

Fender 9050CL on one--lots of depth and strong in the mids. Jury's out but I am thinking awesome.

Chromes--stiff as bridge cables, tinny as steels.

Hard to go wrong with most flats on a P. Easy on fingers and frets, big tone.

The Fenders sound different but are not tonal opposites by any means. They are more like Chromes than most others I would say, but I don't think they are Fender's version of Chromes from what I recall. Fender's seem to be moving more toward "real" flats than Chromes.

too similar to chromes and higher tension.

Absolutely different ! Fender 9050 have more meaty lo-Mid and she sound more RAW than ECB81 .
The ECB81 have higher tension and stiffness than 9050L or CL set. I believe ECB81 is similiar to 9050M in tension.

I have unbalance string to string issue with ECB81 , stiff D and G along with floop E. The Fender 9050L much better.

Since you have bought few pbass curently, why not spend some money for different flatwound and find the one you licking with ?
