Putting a Head with a Cab

Tell you what you are a lucky person! There is a ton of cool gear in your area! I found a double bass for 200 bucks! A couple M.I.A fenders for less than 700 and a ton of mid range gear at great prices!!!

well I think I have settled on this head. the Hartke LH1000. what ohms and watts should the cab to go with this head be? I know I can't just attach it to anything.

That's gonna be a lot of cab to use that amp to it's intended use. I think it might be too much amp for what you are doing.

You'd be looking at an 810 or 2 with that kind of power.

I figured it would take a lot of speaker being 1000watts and all, I mean, eventually I will be running an 810 rig if all goes well... so I couldn't use this can with it? even though it's a 1200 watt cab?

Well, the numbers say it can, but I do not think anybody in their right mind would put that much power into a single 410, let alone a Behringer. At that price I wouldn't trust it to last 1 night at full power, let alone one set, song,,chorus...

You're talking about dropping a big block into a Chevette with no modifications.

ya. that was just a for instance. so I want the wattage of the speaker to be higher than that of the amp? and the ohms to be the same?

Some killer deals in your area on craigslist! Get yourself out there and try these rigs out. You'd be wasting money in a big way going with new online rigs.

You need a 4 ohm cab rated at 1000 watts. Personally, I'd look for a used Ampeg 8x10 in 4 ohm.

Nothing! I'm still drooling over that ampeg/ GK 600 deal and that ampeg 410x115, but my guitarist is paying for some of it for me and we really can afford to drop 600 all at once and online does payment plan stuff, so at least one piece (head or cab) would have to come from Zzounds. The SVT 7 was awesome, but it got taken down and it was all the way in houston. I have to say fuzzy beard you are awesome at finding local deals!

I like where your heads at carl. but I honestly do like the capabilities of the hartke LH 1000, according to the research that I've done, I would love to find a local cab for this head. I feel that eventually, judging by what I see bassists a the local spots, I'll be playing on 810, or 2 cabs of 410 or one 410/ one 115 or something of that nature. I also want to thank you guys, I feel like the bass community is a very helpful one!

Read up on the 410 / 15 mixing. It's all over this site.

Short version: Don't mix cabs. If you like the sound of a 410 get 2, if you like the sound of a 15, get 2. If you don't like the sound of a cab, get rid of it and buy a different cab, don't add a different one to the one you don't like.

It is pretty widely recommended not to mismatch cabs ( 410+115, etc.)

I see older Ampeg 8x10s on my local CL for under $500 all the time.

By the way, if I needed an amp I would likely be looking at the LH1000.

Exactly! this is what I'm talking about. I read something about can mixing last night, was a sorta pro/con thing, and I wasn't sure where I stood. now I know, no cab mixing. would you say that pretty much anything that I use with the Hartke LH1000 will be louder than my peavey TNT 115s combo amp?

Just don't run it to the point of damaging your cab.
