I love my peavey grind 5, but I can never seem to get that punching sound I am searching for, due to lack of a 3 band EQ in the bass. I dont want to part ways with the bass, because the string spacing is perfect for my fingers, and is quite frankly one of the best spacing's I've experienced on any bass. So I've come to this, I'm going to install an active preamp to attempt to get this sound I'm looking for, but have no idea a) if it will change anything, and b) which preamp to choose. I'm thinking along the lines of the bartolini, aguilar obp3, or the cirrus/millinnium preamp. Any insight to what my best option would be or any advice regarding switching from passive to active would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Get a Zoom B3, gives my Grind more kick than I need. You can find them used for what you'd pay for the preamp. Plus, bass stays passive.

That's a great idea! I like my passive basses, and would prefer they stay that way.
