PYPB 37: In a row?

That's awesome about the band; it's good to have a level of variety allowed for the song's tones. I like the cover list. Quite a bit, especially the Tool stuff. Their songs are fun to play, though a bit difficult at times. You should try Intension, the bassline in that song is interesting. All kinds of harmonics all over the place.

I thought the OS would be the more used one, depending on if there's a dedicated synth player or not.

Your other board is a bit more... daunting... to look at than the first. A lot more going on there. No LS2 though? Do you plan on adding a loop? And is that an EHX looper? How are those?

Intension is a cool song, but my band tries to keep it to the more well-known songs, as that's what bar owners want.

As for the OS, it is capable of a LOT more than I'm currently using it for in the covers band. It's going to see double duty on both of my boards, since it can do so much. But on my other board, I have much more free rein to experiment, as that's for my original band.

The Mastotron is deliciously fat. Since I see it compared to the Mammoth a bit, did you pick it over the WM? I picked it for the relax/push input control that makes it active friendly, so I'm curious if you thought the same thing.

Also, I still don't get the PW knob on that. It acts like a gate, but it's supposed to mess with pulse width? I guess he does something crazy with the biasing?

True that. A chunk of their catalog is less radio-friendly. I think Lateralus had one single? Maybe two.

Yeah, I've heard the OS is rather powerful, if difficult to work with. Digitally controlled analog circuits I think?

The originals sounds cool, just from what's on your board. Anything that involves all that must be making some cool sounds.

I chose it firstly because I loved the sound - It is flavoured slightly different to the Mammoth I find. A little abrasive. It's also no lie that the Mammoth does sound a bit thin with an active and the gate doesn't react as well - I use a Roscoe with an 18v Bart pre so the WM was not a great choice.

If it was, I'd still use a Mastotron as I prefer the tone.

PW is a combination of things, all of which you basically summarised above. The gating comes by making the wave form irregular - effectively turning it into a stutter. I love the way it works and how many different sounds you can get out of it!

Oh yes, it is a multi-faceted abrasive beast. If you turn all the way to the relax side and lower the fuzz though, it mellows out significantly. Seems to let some clean bass in as well. It even gets almost normal fuzz on the left side of PW. The Mastotron is a beast, almost like a fuzz factory geared to bass.

And while it sounds massive with subs on 3, I tend to leave them set to 2 as if you put an envelope filter afterwards with subs on 2 its Synth heaven...!

Really? I assume it triggers the filter differently? I usually leave it on 3, but I'll have to try it on 2. I just have an exp controlled Xero (non-dlx) but I hope it will get close.

Also, have you tried the Mastotron into an analog delay with a sub-slapback delay time and high feedback? Suuuper fat. Almost like a detune, since the delay imperfectly reproduces the sound.

Subs 3 literally boosts the low lows and leaves them unaffected which seems to keep the envelope clean as well. On 2 it seems to offer much more synthy bite. With a dedicated Low Pass you may not notice the difference, but on an auto-wah type envelope filter it's ace.

As for the detune slapback concept - yes! LOVE IT!

Hey thanks! My current chain is (or atleast pictured)...

PitchBlack -> OC2 -> BMS -> OXFUZZ Bass->SUF Civil War ->VB2 ->Organizer(I'm trying this in different places at the moment, haven't quite decided where I like it best) -> Malekko Phase -> PN2 -> Ghost Disaster -> Mod'd DL4

... When my Randy's Revenge arrives it'll go right before the PN2.

I'm really digging the Ghost Disaster. I picked up a Dispatch Master randomly in a trade here on TB and really dug how it sounded, but wanted more control/separation or the reverb from the delay. The Ghost Disaster does that for me.

nice board man. Like you, i have a couple of boss pedz at the back... theyr damn tricky to click on sometimes without knocking another pedals settings.

Need to get some more pt boosters. considering just putting boosters right along the back actually.

thanks, i appreciate the compliment. Luckily the mxr bass fuzz deluxe is a few millimeters shorter than the boss oc-2; so i can step on it relatively easy. i was also thinking about getting boosters myself, just to see if it makes it a bit of a better pedal switching experience up top.
