PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

I picked up a Nano and a Volto from the classifieds (Thanks, Brian!) so I could take a smaller board to my restaurant gig with limited floor space. So, instead of taking this:

I'll be taking something closer to what I took on Wednesday:

I figure I'll swap out a couple of them every week this month. Fun!

Well I just picked up a in out patch bay to tidy up my board a bit... Don't know if it's overkill as never had a problem plugging cables in and out in six years but I guess could save wear and tear on my pedal tote case as I never take the board out... So many people use them?

I've used one for a while now, I didn't "need" one either, I just like having everything in one place, and it makes set-up/tear down a little faster.

Last night I decided to throw caution to the wind and take my board to the blues trio gig. We do stuff from Robert Johnson to Hendrix but we improvise a lot and try to make it fun and our own style. I rarely use effects in this band, but last night was a blast. Now I'm wondering why I haven't before! I used delay and verb minimally (created pads underneath the guitarist while noodling intros and used it on 1 solo), but the drive and Octave really added a lot of energy at times. Def spiced up my solos from the norm. The other guys are always up for experimentation so it went well.

That's awesome. I've always had fun trying to "tastefully" work effects in to styles that don't traditionally use them. It's kind of funny, as the people that were against it before, usually are all about doing it again after.

Some more small rearranging. The Barbershop has been mainstay on my board for two years now, but I'm always tempted to try new stuff and so I got a ss/bs Mini … and I'm kind of delighted. I know that it gets mentioned in those "Low gain overdrive" threats that pop up all the time, but not as much as the Barbershop, Grizzly, Beta etc. I wonder why, since it almost seems like a Barbershop+ to me (which shouldn't belittle the Barbershop in any way). It can do pretty transparent low gain drive, but the gain range is huuge from just some clean fattening to pretty distorted. And with the bias knob you can pretty much dial in the nice farty/splatty gated-fuzz sounds that Fairfield's Unpleasant Surprise does so nicely and gets nice and synthy with the Proton. In short: A definite winner.
Also: I had the Aftershock for a while, but couldn't do without the Pharaoh. (Also no offence intended towards the Aftershock, which is a splendid pedal. Happy to see it on so many boards. We really leave in an age of incredible choice when it comes to effects.)

Sounds like we have similar gigs. My guitar player loves my pedalboard. Filling four hours as a trio is a lot easier with the ability to add textures and change things up.

Moved the EB volume/exp pedal off to a smaller board, put my lil orange box(Varitone switch) and made a footswitch for the Rumble 500 OD channel. Dang I have an open space....I'm thinking a Feed Me is in my future. Also, I'm not enthused with the Chorus, doesn't really do much. Any goofball pedal suggestions?

Sure. Pedal chain goes like this:
Bass-> Xotic X-Blender-> EHX Superego-> Polytune 2-> amp. EBow on the side.
In the X-Blender's loop is a G Lab M4L MIDI-controlled bypass looper. The four loops have:
1. Boss OC-2 with synth mod
2. Source Audio Aftershock
3. Bearfoot Blueberry OD
4. iRig Pro Duo into iPad Mini 4 running Loopy HD and Bias FX

The Gordius LGX2 controls all the effects except the Superego. It has a Dunlop DVP4 mini plugged into it. I have a button dedicated to switching the function of the expression pedal, so I can rotate through several different expression pedal settings while only using one pedal.

While you can set nearly all of the MIDI programming on the unit itself, you generally program it using the PC editor. It has a pretty steep learning curve (probably very steep if you don't have any MIDI knowledge) but becomes very easy once you know what you're doing. I can send any number of simultaneous commands to the MIDI looper, Bias FX, Loopy, and the expression pedal with just one button. I'm considering getting a Neuro Hub to change presets on the Aftershock as well.

Bring it. Routers and controllers count and it's a nice set up.

I don't even have a wallet anymore. I pawned it to buy some patch cables.

Hope its ok to ask this here. I just migrated my Aguilar Pedals onto my big board. I'm not a massive effects guy. What you see here is what I use at a covers gig. I've got a spot to fill. Looking for suggestions from people far more in the know about effects than me. What would complement this Board? Ig nore the xds plus. it is just on there to trail stuff at the moment. My G50 will go on there eventually.

I'm happy to shuffle the order to put something where it needs to be. The eneloop battery can be moved to the front row if needed, and TLC could go up there in it's place as it is almost always on.

Thoughts have been for a Broughton LPF/HPF, a low gain OD, a delay perhaps? Needs to be something 9v. I'm hoping that I can run the THDI via Phantom power, everything else will run from the eneloop, so no power will be required to run to the board.

I've been re-jigging my boards - out with a metro 20 and 24 (sometimes connected using patchboxes) to a nano and novo18. I'm still waiting for a Disaster Area DMC-4 Gen3 for the big board so when that arrives I'll post some pics, but in the meantime, here's one configuration of the nano with a newly arrived Triode Beelzebub (which I love, it's absolutely fantastic for mild OD).
