PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

I’ve got a new addition to my board… it’s the Baghdad from Does It Doom. The High Gain Channel is derived from a Soldano SP77 preamp driving a Green Matamp GT120 amplifier.

How did that pedal chain order work out? Is it going left to right?

I’ve remade my pedal board (again) and I’m going to have similar types pedals and wonder how that sounds.

I’ll have the following and trying to decide on an order:

Strobostomp will be at start
DCX Bass
Humboldt
Pork&Pickle
YYZ Shapeshifter
and RNDI which I know will be at the end.
I think I prefer the DCX post-Humboldt.

Latest Novo32 setup.

Big thanks to @Erithon for the Wombtone MKII suggestion which replaced a Spaceman Explorer. Gets almost as slow as the Dunwich Phase Shifter but with more available features.

Gonna try the latest Doom 2 in place of the Oxide once it arrives.
That's some mighty fine Tetrising! Love the double FFXL as well.

Thank you! I’m trying to think of a way to add a Studio Boost Mini back in. The T-16’s in its spot.
Oops, that's my fault as well: I connected you with the TBer looking to move it ;)
It looks like there's just enough negative space left to fit the SBM back in with some reorganizing. I always enjoy that kind of challenge. It's the wiring that I find unpleasant.

Took a bit, but when I wired everything together I found my Prometheus DLX died. In the last week. Somehow. Got to this and had to change plans:

A buyer/scam bot backed out of a sale, so I had a spare filter laying around. I think the guy did me a favor. I'm going to send in the DLX for service, but I think the Octavius Squeezer is staying after all:

I still have cable wraps, a 1ch patch bay, and a MIDI patch bay on the way, so no shots of the undercarriage for now. The signal chain is Bass->ZOIA->Le Bass->Amp. The ZOIA's "send/return" is ZOIA->Bass Whammy->Morningstar ML5->ZOIA. The ML5's loop order is Keeley Bassist->Boss FZ-2->ZVex Machine->Moog MuRF->Chunk OS. The DMC Micro controlls tap tempo on the MuRF and mostly just bypass/patch up/down on the ZOIA, and will have a MIDI clock in port soon to sync with guitarist. The ZOIA's CV port is controlling the envelope of the MuRF. I'm considering getting a DMC MIDI Baby. I think I have room for it.

Got the job done at the latest cover band gig. Took the modded boss stuff off to tinker with. C4 is using a patch that's supposed to sound like a Fwonkbeta. Sounds gnarly with the oc-5.

I could run a pbass with my boss bc-1x and vt bass forever. I might sound like I'm abusing hyperbole, but it just sounds that good. It's a tone I love, sits perfect and sounds full in my 3 piece band mix, and I can make minor play style adjustments to get different sounds depending on the song.... But I know I'll still get the itch to mess with things. Might try running two preamps in parallel and summing the signal next

One more step down: Mounted a Saturnworks 1ch patchbay next to the AC in on one side of my board. Not pretty but functional and durable and what I can do with a drill, file, and angle grinder:

Tomorrow I will do the last of the mounting. I need to make a plate for the MIDI input that allows for a master clock in/override. Too late for widdling sheet metal, but I have the parts:

I like the 'raw' esthetic of that contraption :bassist:.

Thanks! This may be the "rawest" part yet, but it is not easy to drill a 1in hole in sheet metal without a vice or a drill press, so here is the last of the jacks (MIDI input):

Got a Disaater Area MIDI Baby on the way, and then it's one more weird/custom cable and it's all hooked up. The end is in sight.

That indeed is next level raw .

Here’s the “PortaStomp” on top of my Pedaltrain Nano for comparison.View attachment 5095529

Ok, I’ve been waiting for a while to post this.
All the pieces have finally come together, and it’s been thoroughly tested.

This is a custom board made by Jason at Pedalnetics. Here’s a video from him that explains probably better than I can.

I have also added the Heauxy Duo switch from Pedalnetics as well to complete the portability and functionality.

The battery pack is 20,000Mah, and has been tested to run the stomp for over 5 1/2 hours continuous use, with 2 lights remaining on the battery meter.

I have the Stomp attached with Dualock, and it is very sturdy.

I have debuted it at one gig so far, and I believe I am now pretty well set. The Stomp covers everything I need for my cover bands, and my originals band as well.

Portability and not wanting to rely/connect to main power has now been achieved with flawless results.

Thank you Jason (Pedalnetics).

Another step closer to done. Board hardware is all installed. Waiting on a cable to replace the red/black cable splitting off CV from the ZOIA to the MuRF. That and a 5 pin/3.5mm TRS MIDI squid for when the MIDI Baby arrives.

The last 4sq in should be filled in a couple days. It is... fun... Just made a patch that's clean blended with whammy into Machine into MuRF into delay into ring mod modulated by a delayed audio signal into an lpf into a granular filter. Oddly usable.

Got a Bass Whammy, took way too long to redo the board.

Did myself a favor and drew out signal flow so I didn’t screw anything up.

I’ve had the Temple Audio setup for a while and I don’t really recommend it. It’s a PITA to replace the adhesive on reused plates. There’s not as much freedom in placement as one might think. I have to take into account mounting the PSU because I’m using the screws and standoffs that Cioks supplies and that means I can’t mount pedals over the PSU. There’s no good solution for cable management.

I love the board mounted jacks and the fact that how obnoxious it is to change the layout makes me less likely to buy and flip pedals. If I do another reorg, I’ll probably go back to a Pedaltrain setup.
