PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

Current state of affairs... rearranged the layout to accomodate the oh-so-big-but-oh-so-marvelous-sounding MXR Stereo Chorus and keep everything else on board.

Toying with idea of putting a mini BBE Sonic maximizer in the middle spot, right after the HPF in the chain signal. Anyone doing that, cleaning up lower freqs and exciting them after ?

Looks like a great board! But unless you have some real audio fidelity issues (which I can't imagine you would), I'm pretty sure that BBE pedal is snake oil. Between your EQ, comp, and HPF, you seem to have plenty of avenues for cleaning up lows, and boosting/exciting frequencies as you see fit!

Thx Phil, I get a great tone out of it and it's dead quiet, no matter which pickups are used and there's no audio fidelity issue whatsoever. You're right about the snake oil and the 2 Sonic Maxes I owned at different times years ago (a 1st and a 2nd generation) added some noise as well.

Someone posted a pic of his basses in the Thunderbird club, which included his pedals and he's using an HPF into an EHX Steel Leather, which is more of an expander than a real exciter (and generally provides too much attack for my taste), but still, that got me thinking.... If I'm cleaning up my signal with the HPF set at 41khz, how would it sound if I added a Sonic Max right after, adding a bit of dimension to a signal with less artifacts ? In theory, it seems to make sense ? I tried the Exciter Sim in the MS60B and I can see the change, but I can't place it right after the HPF.

The sonic maximizer is doing some slight delaying of frequencies to adjust the phase of lows/highs/mids. What it’s doing in short is giving the effect of a mid scoop. If you want that, go for it. Should probably be end of the chain before your amp.

Nice board and the BSW is such a fun pedal. Sonic Maximizers or enhancers are great for mixing but I have never really liked them on individual instruments, IME they are generally counter productive rather a welcome addition.

If you are looking to add some special sauce to your sound tubes mat be the answer. Try some @Sushi Box FX like a Finally Tube DI, Underground Accelerator or MORE.

Here's the latest for my big board (posted on here in a few spots, but included a visual representation of wiring while I wait for cable ties in the mail)

Thx guys.

Sonic Max is definitely an option and yes, the Sushi Box stuff too, been looking at those for a while. Another thing crept up while I was out biking this PM: an EHX Switchblade (not the Pro or grey box version, but the horizontal one). Using an LS-2 as as booster (which it does very well) opens up that option: I could split the signal before the chorus and have them rejoined at the LS-2. I'll have to cut some bass freqs at one point to prevent boomyness but (again, in theory), after having the HPF clean up the signal, I'm wondering how that would sound....

*sigh*.... that country, In Theory... I'd really like to go there one day, 'cause everything seems possible In Theory...

Great, thanks!
The EBS TRS cable is even more low profile, shorter, and affordable.

EDIT: I see this is for a Dunlop pedal. If the pedal isn't mounted on your board, I'd opt for the longer version of the EBS cable or, for better quality, the [This invalid link has been removed]. I use six of the former for my Expressionators and two of the latter for my expression pedal.

Current plan has been to keep it on the board but maybe I should buy one with extra length, just in case future iterations revolve around the expression pedal being on the side... can always wind it up.

Smurf… what is your signal chain in relation to the Dirt Fixer?

Thx!
Humboldt > Dirtfixer (DCX > Heavy Menace) > Bassrig.

The clean blend isn’t really necessary with either of those pedals from a low-end retention perspective, but it does provide some extra articulation and reduces compression in the overall signal; the EQ, however, is very powerful and useful for shaping the signal, and is the main event (for me).
