PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

Couple of new pedals on the board.
20230701_104439.jpg

Empress > BB Xotic (distortion) > Edison Preamp > Pepers Nolan Ripsaw (OD) > Octaver > MXR Envelop > POG > Brought HPF > Ditto

BB overdriving into the Edison is boss level. I'm trying to get the Pepers pedal (B3K V1 clone) to sound kind of like a Geddy tone. I actually removed my Tech 2112 pedal, just couldn't jive with it and wasn't getting that Geddy tone (the irony).

I think that benson boost is worth a look for folks unable to get their hands on a wren and cuff phat phuk B. It’s as good if not better.
I have both and I agree. The benson is more hi-fi sounding and more consistent and predictable. It sounds really good “in the mix”. W&C is dirtier and probably has more low end, but not by much. Both sound killer with the Noble.

Small update...

As it turns out, this band doesn't need anywhere near the hate that my Blower Box provides, so off it comes, but we do have a song that needs some simulated strings (think cello) and since I don't have Boss Slow Gear money...:jawdrop: enter the Mooer Slow Engine combine that with some really quiet octave up from the HXS, and some tasteful reverb it's close to what I'm shooting for, it's not quite a perfect match, but it's good enough for my needs.

The Kliq tuner is just a place holder for my inbound Polytune Noir Mini (gotta stick with the black/red theme), but I gotta be honest...for what it is, that Kliq tuner is great! I got it from a friend (she meant well) and I hadn't used it until now, it tunes my 4 AND 5 strings every bit as fast as my Pitchblack and Polytune pedals, and it seems just as accurate. Would I gig with it??? Maybe? It seems tough enough, but I have no need to, so it'll probably sit on my desk as a "home tuner" when needed.

My stickers idea for the preset up/down seemed like a solid idea...until the buttons spin. :roflmao:  :banghead: :meh:

Went to a bigger board, instead of moving stuff around on two smaller boards.

IMO, that’s the perfect sized not small board. I have a mono board that size that I’ve set up to cover two very different bands.

Band A signal chain: tuner > DCX > BassRig SV > Micro-Troy III > Cali76

Band B signal chain: tuner > DCX > Parabellum > Bluebeard > Oxide > BassRig SV > 3-knob Xero > 6 knob Xero > DIG > Cali76

Current state of my big board. Front row is where the dirt is at and the top row is for octave synths.
This setup satisfies my changing taste in dirt. From lightest to heaviest:
Hot Wax hot tubes channel for "tube-sim" saturation and light compression.
Hot Wax crayon channel for sizzle and grind.
Battalion distortion channel for distortion. This one doesn't get used much.
Deluxe Big Muff for furry hairy fuzz.
Power Fuzz Wah for ripping spittin' fuzz.
Top row also has three octave flavors:
POG channel for flawless tracking and extra up octave
Digitech synth wah has a more organic analog-like sub octave sound, and extra envelop filter.
Mono synth 'sub' mode has a big fat 80's synth sound, and a couple extra synth modes.

I'm pretty much out of things to add, but I am quite pleased with this:
20230706_083641.jpg

Pedal order: Bass->ZOIA->Le Bass->Amp. One ZOIA out goes into the Bass Whammy, then into the Morningstar ML5 loop switcher and back into the ZOIA. Loop order: Keeley Bassist->Boss FZ-2->Vex Machine->Moog Bass MuRF->Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer.
20230706_083730.jpg

The MIDI chain has an input on the back for an optional master clock in, and goes MIDI Baby->DMC Micro->ZOIA->ML5->Le Bass->Bass Whammy.
20230706_083900.jpg

The MuRF gets a tap tempo in from the DMC Micro (global clock sync across MIDI and anolg yay!) and the envelope gets CV from the ZOIA's control port.

Done for a while.

Downsized to a Duo 24 and I'm really loving how clean my board looks now!!! Probably the neatest I've ever gotten it.

Re-added my beloved Subdecay Siren vibrato, even more of my secret weapon now that I've taken to playing my fretless Stingray more often. I still can't believe that the Siren's "enchant" feature never really took the pedal world by storm, I love it dearly. I can probably accomplish most of what I want on any given day with just a comp, the Siren, and my BF-2.

I tend to use my Deco's saturation as all the "dirt" I really need, but I started getting addicted to more bass distortion sounds vice the usual fuzz pedals I've used in the past. I love the Elements for that, letting me get gnarly but not shrilly distortion tones. I may still replace it with a Broughton Locus Star or another Rat-esque pedal just because I love how they sound on bass!

I took my Moog MF-101 off the board and am trying out the Dr. Scientist Dusk in its place - it's a very deep, easy-to-dial in filter and I especially really dig the filter sweep button on it. I may end up getting a little boost to run before it to really take it into honky gnarly direction.

I went back and forth for which reverb to put on the new board - I love, love, love the Atmosphere (would be perfect if it was stereo!) for its versatility, presets, and style; but I also love my Rainger FX Reverb-X for its immediacy and I think I might prefer its gated reverb more than the Atmosphere's. I may still swap them as I play around with it, I really love the sound of a nice gated reverb. In an ideal world if I had a smidgen more space I'd put the Reverb-X before the Supro delay so I could have the best of both worlds!

I'm going to stick two Lightning Boy Audio 2020's underneath the board, but still figuring out where I want them in the chain. Any suggestions, pedalheads? I'm thinking one after the Deco and maybe one at the end after the Atmosphere.

It’s been a while since I posted, so this is a pretty big update to the board. Pedals listed in signal chain order for those that care…

Input > Montreal Assembly PURPLL >
Boss OC-5 Octave >
Fuzzrocious Li’l Fella >
Fuzzrocious M.O.T.H >
Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler v2 >
Fuzzrocious Croak >
Red Panda Bitmap2 >
Dr. Scientist Dusk (w/ Moog EP-3 Expression Pedal) >
GFI System Synesthesia (w/ Triple Switch) >
Hologram Electronics Microcosm >
Source Audio Collider >
Keeley Bassist Limiting Amplifier >
TC Electronics Polytune Mini > Output

Everything is cables with EBS gold flat patch cables, powered with a CIOKS DC7 + 8 Expander, and mounted to a PedalTrain Jr Max (a number of PT Pedal Boosters are mounted to the back row for accessibility). I also use another Moog EP-3 beside the board, which changes the pedal it’s controlling based on my mood: usually the Bitmap, Microcosm or PURPLL.

I’m so in love with everything in this set up at the moment… that’s a great feeling!
