PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

Thank you for suggesting side-chain compression in a pedalboard context. What is the kick in? Click? MIDI? Onset detector? I can think of a few ways to do this (and one easy one cuz ZOIA), but am curious what you're doing.

The "Sidechain mixer" is a mix pedal I am designing with DESS intended to work with the Empress Effect Bass compressor's 1/8 jack connector.

It is intended to control what triggers the compression on the bass signal. The mixer has 2 input : the bass signal from the sidechain loop and the drum kick microphone.

This way, I can choose to let the bass triggers the compressor (which means the compressor works as a regular bass compressor) - OR I can choose to have the drummer pump my compressor (and how much I want the kick to affect my signal).

I find this pretty cool. It won't bas as good as what a sound engineer can do on its own, but it will be awesome as a ducking effect.

The amazing builder helping me with the project : Invalid Link Removed

Live board is, um, live...

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised when it all powered up and sound came out of my amp. It's going to be a fun weekend.

I was on the brink of selling my Noble. There was an incident a few weeks back that prompted the thought. Luckily, nothing happened.

I picked up another SGT-DI while I was debating selling the Noble. Then, the crazy thoughts started. I have decided to run two channels at gigs - one more clean (maybe a bit of fuzz if needed) and one more dirty.

Input is at the Strobostomp Mini. Goes off to a Coppersound ABY. Channel A runs: Cali 76, DCX Bass, Noble. Channel B: Lead Boost Wah to SGT. If I need to go direct via one channel, the Noble will stay home. I have a longer EBS gold cable to connect the DCX to the Morley Wah then to the SGT. I’m going to get a rough idea of a sound with each channel tonight. I have a beach gig tomorrow that I can mess around with it more. We’ll see how it goes!

Board update. Upgraded from my trusty Vintage Microtubes to Vintage Deluxe.
Replaced W&C PPB with a Fairfield Barbershop, as I've been curious about it for a while now.
It's a really great, very transparent overdrive. Perfect for giving me that just-over-the-edge of breakup tone and slight boost, sounds fantastic with TFR or feeding into Vintage. It stacks great into Vintage for a raunchier overdrive tone.

The Squid has taken the pre/drive spot on the board now. The Wine Cellar had to go back, it just wasn’t good live. The Squid was great. It’s a keeper and will split time with the YYZ depending on the mood.

Between the Humboldt, the 800RB, and the TH, that's a LOT of preamp! Are you toggling through them for different sounds, or stacking?

Use them separately. The Humboldt and DCX are always on. TH is the main preamp. Switch to 800RB for 80’s/90’s rock and to the Squid for any harder edged songs.

I don't think of the Humboldt like a pre, but I guess it is, as well as the DCX. I guess that and the DCX are always stacked with the others.

All wired up! I’m going to replace all of my EBS cables with TourGear Designs cables in the next couple weeks. My pedal placement is too limited by EBS’ cable offering.

Ha. Thanks guys. I could use a PLL or another modulation pedal. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with my set up. I’m not looking forward to tearing it apart… again!

Slimmed down to comp, drive, filter, tuner, pre. I had a rotating cast of fuzz, octave, and phaser in another slot, but this is all I'm really using with my current gig.

The Mini is new and replaced a Fifth Gear. I tried the Fifth Gear in the loop of the Merbl for a dedicated dirt option there, but it made the board too tight and the Mini does just fine feeding the front of the filter anyway. Lots of sounds in those two actual effects, and then the Cali into Oracle is just beastly for the dry tone. My board used to have a lot more options, but that dry tone is just killer and I'm happy to play it most of the night these days.
