@Winston: get a fender sublime! My Fav fuzz of all time overall and I've trie quite a few. Can do vintage "think Beatles" or modern "QOTSA".

Vintage is exactly what I want! Hmm maybe I don't have all the dirt tones I need yet.... My band does all 60's and 70's style rock. All the songs are original but they don't really belong in this decade

I've heard a few clips of the Sublime and it sounds incredible. The only reason I haven't gotten one yet is that I live in Australia and postage for something that big is about $60.
I'm waiting until someone I know goes over to the US and can get one for me.

Which Mammoth clone did you use? Do you have a schematic and is it active friendly? I have been GASsing for a Mammoth for ages now

In the future of my BB Preamp clone, I see MOSFET clippers and a fun add-on board like this:

New toys!

Out went the Proton, and in comes the Xerograph. Out went the DD-7, in comes the M5.

As much as I loved the Proton, The Xerograph is just....in another world. I can't turn the thing off!
But this M5.....oh my. OH MY. I've fallen in love. I got this thing to use as a dedicated delay, of which it does a MARVELLOUS job. So many different models, and tap tempo, with any note division you want. But theres so much more! I can see myself taking this thing by itself to smaller gigs, when I only need some sparse effects usage.

Now, just to find something to take the 4545's spot. I cant fit it into any songs anymore

All this animosity for and against effects makes me wonder how mature bass players are.

I tried most all the effects and they all sound great. But at rehearsal the mid range insturments (sax, guitars, keys) drown out the cool effects. The best way for me to find a good mix is plug straight in (and mess a little with EQ).

As an electronic engineer having all those connectors in the signal chain is asking for noise.
