If they never told you it was altered, then they lied to you by omission. GC is well known for shady business practices, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that they would do that. Take it back and demand a full refund for the purchase price of the cab. Then check the TB for sale forums for an honest deal. Best of luck in your quest for tone!

When I go to rehearsal I usually bring my head and rackmount only and use their cabs. I hooked up my SVT PRO 4 to a Hughes & Kettner 8x10 cab and it absolutely blew me away!! So if you like the way it sounds and Get a head that matches the ohms, I would do what strangerdanger said and ask for a HUGE discount for selling you a hack job but you'll be willing to keep it at a discount. You can always play the hard card too and threaten them by saying if they do not refund or renegotiate yu will report them to the BBB and take further action for giving you full disclosure on the merchandise before it was sold to you.

Sucks! cause Hughes & Kettner cabs are really good and hard to find but you don't want a hack job either because it really is not the way H&K built it.
