Double Bass QSC K10 arrived yesterday...

In most of the situations I encounter the QSC K8 in combination with the Headway EDB-1 cuts right through as a backline amp.

Again, I totally get that it works for some people. I just know that for me, it was either boomy mush, or too thin if I tried to roll off the bottom. A more traditionally voiced amp works better for me. I had the same experience with Acme cabs. For some people, the flat thing works really well, but my recommendation with the QSC K series is to "try before you buy" to see if it works for you.

As you say, there are various combinations, of instruments, pickups, and amps that don't play well together. I had an identical experience with the Acme cabinet's, sometimes you can have "to much of a good thing". A lot of times it's the interaction between a head and a cabinet.

I'd recommend adding the Yamaha DXR12 12" to your audition. I tried them side by side (with my old Rev Solo>Fishman pre setup) and while both were great, the Yamaha sounded much more musical to my ears - more even overall.

Wish I had seen this earlier. Just ordered a K10. Oh well, if it sounds close to what I want I can also order the DXR12 since MF has a 30 trial.

How is everyone doing with the PA and DB combo? Still digging it?

Still digging mine. I use it for about 75% of my amplified gigs, the other 25% that need an amp get my Woods/Bergantino rig just because I like that setup also. The k10 works great for me.

I'm still digging mine also. I find it easier to get a great consistent sound than any other amplification setup I've owned/used. I find it can keep up with any drummer I'll play DB with.

How would these compare to the QSC K8 or K10? Just wondering... I'm thinking of using a Vintage Revolution preamp + Realist + DPA4099B mic. Could work just fine.

I'm also leaning toward the K10 and had found info on the VR Acoustic Box but don't know where to get one. Did you get one already, and if so, where?

Ditto. I use it for everything that I can't do acoustically or with a house PA.

I'm pretty happy with my k10. Having the speaker pole mounted at ear level makes all the difference in terms of hearing yourself and cutting feedback.
I just played a gig today where I had to sacrifice my tone quite a bit to deal with the room (loud stage with lots of subwoofers), but with the k10, I was at least able to hear myself clearly and not get horrendous feedback.
