Quandary With Music and iTunes

Should I limit the songs on my iPod by checking the songs I listen to?

Hey Yall',

I am bit of a perfectionist and like everything organized. When I put songs on iTunes, I get an artist's Greatest Hits CD. However, on many of the albums there are songs I dont even bother listening to. My friends reccomend that I should check the songs that I enjoy. The thing is that there are some albums where I like every song. The perfectionist side of me tells me if I should check/ uncheck songs I will disorganize my iPod with uneven amount of songs for each artist. Also, sometimes I ponder onto a song I don't recognize by name but I do by listening to it. Doing the process would remove that option. The other side of me says, "look how much memory you could save." What do you think?

just put everything on it

you never know when you might want to listen to it
hell, you might discover you actually like some of the songs you didnt originally
or, you might discover a song you never gave a chance

also, you never know what song you might need in the right moment
my friend has just about everything known to mankind on his ipod
some songs that have only ever been payed once

but, there are moments when something is just needed
and youll punch yourself for not having it

(im talking about the entire star wars soundtracks for blasting at unsuspecting passerbys downtown late at night)

I voted yes, but if you have a big one, then put it all on there.

I only have an 8g and I'm pretty much out of room on it. What I do is leave whole albums on there for a while and then I go through and anything that has a low play count, meaning I don't listen to them....I delete off the ipod. I leave them on itunes should I want to put them back on there.

I hate the auto sync, I prefer to manage the content myself.

Wow, that's way too much thought over an iPod! ;)

I'd put entire albums on it and if you don't have a big enough iPod to do that get a newer one with a bigger capacity. I've ripped about half of my CDs onto my 40 GB iPod, have close to 4000 songs on it, and it's still only eating up about 18GB. I never think about how much space I'm using on it because I figured out that's already far more space than I'll ever need.

The other thing I figured out is that I should rip CDs at a relatively low sample rate, like 128 Kbps. Since I only listen to my iPod on PC speakers or through ear buds, I have no reason to waste space on my iPod with high sample rates. If you tend to listen through a high end audio system, then you might want to use the higher bit rates, but if that's how you usually listen then you'd probably be better off ripping to a lossless format rather than MP3's. But for my purposes, low bit rate MP3s are fine.
