Quarter Pound pickup height?

What is the pickup height need to be on a Precision with SD Quarter pounders to get rid of distortion? I started off with around 1/8'' and have lowered to about a 1/4''.

Is there an ideal height and can you get rid of the distortion? Thanks.

what "distortion" are you referring to? are the strings smacking against the pickup? is the amp input clipping? speakers giving out?

in general QPs need to be a little lower due to increased magnet pull.

No strings not hitting the pickup, I get destortion from two different combos (ashdown & roland) when the tone is turned fully to the bass side, with SD pickup, the exact same model bass (CV Squier) does not distort on the same amp settings with standard pickups.

Is this 'clipping'?

I recently installed a QP in my squier P as well and I just cannot dial in a sound that I love with it! I won't say that I'm unhappy with the pickup as it is a significant improvement over the stock one. I just haven't found the "sweet spot" yet.
