Question about build

A fender deluxe american pbass (w/ humbucker and P pickup) costs around 1200 bucks. It is made from Swampash with a maple fretboard. The electronics are fender double j's and a P pickup. If i were to copy the bridge, pickups, wiring, potentiometers (to the tune of around 300$) and then find myself a P body blank (stripping a new essex) could i build the same tone? This is just an example, not sayign i'd do so, but if i replaced all the hardware on a essex, could i get a better or equal to fender tone? I would suppose so seeing as the body wood is the same and the neck wood is similar, but I was unclear whether any other aspects would affect sound and playability.

Thanks
