Double Bass Question about damaged bridge

The bridge on my newly acquired E.H. Roth bass is missing part of the bridge foot on the E string side (see pics) and I have two questions:

1) Can this be repaired by replacing the missing wood, or am I better off having a new bridge cut?

2) Is it a bad idea to have the bridge in place while it's like this? It does not seem to be in any danger of falling over, but I'm wondering if it can have any detrimental effect to leave it on the bass until I have it repaired or replaced.
