Question about Euphonic Audio Iamp Classic

It might be in reference to the iamp Pro. It came out for a while and then transitioned to the Classic. The Pro is similar to the the Classic in looks/features but I believe the Classic had upgraded power and a slightly different ‘tone’ to it overall. Not completely sure though. I had an iamp 800 that I really enjoyed back in the day. Wish I would have kept it around.

It was definitely done to the Classic, as I had both versions of the iAMP Classic in my hands at the same time. The upgrade to the power supply did result in a bit more fullness/heft/authority in the lows to low mids, and it made the (updated) Classic sound a bit more like the iAMP 800, in terms of attack and fullness of tone in the lower notes. I was rather surprised that I could hear a difference, but I definitely did. That being said, the original version of the Classic sounded pretty darned good, too, so I wouldn't shy away from a "non-updated" iAMP Classic.

How could you physically tell the difference, serial number?

Gary might know by the serial numbers. I am not sure, myself. But I do believe that the update could be done (by Gary) to a non-updated Classic. If you need Gary's email, send me a PM.

Gary added additional filter capacitors to the power supply. The way to tell is to remove the top cover and see if there are any filter capacitors (which are cylindrical in shape) that are not already mounted on the ICEpower amp module.

The power supply on ICEpower amplifier modules can benefit by adding more capacitive storage. (Think of it as putting a larger gas tank in your car.) As such, any bass amp with an ICEpower amp module can be improved by adding filter capacitance, not just the iAmp Classic.

Here’s a picture of an iAmp Pro with an additional filter capacitor (located on the right). Look for something that looks somewhat like this. If there is nothing mounted in that space, the amp module has not been modified.

Well done, sir! Thank you!

I've got one of the upgraded Classics. That thing is an absolute beast and sounds amazing. I don't use it as often as I should, likely because I've got it in a rack case and it's just so easy to grab the Doubler. However for any big fancy gig, I'll always make time for the Classic. It really sounds great.
