Double Bass Question about modifying a Realist

I have a Realist which I never liked all that much on my bass. It's sitting in a drawer.

I also have a nice archtop guitar that I'd like to amplify with something other than a magnetic pickup--something that gets closer to the acoustic tone. Several jazz guitarists I know of recommend the realist

Does anyone know if you can trim the Realist? If I cut it down, will I kill it?

Hard to say, they do make a smaller cello PU. If the archtop has a floating bridge I suppose you could try it.

I wish I read this when it was posted but in case someone reads it, I did modify my old realist I did cut it down, there is a black layer of amalgamation stuff and the tow elements. Mine worked beautifully,separated the bit I cut off and there was nothing in it, so it can be cut smaller quite a bit.
