Question about Mutations....

I had a question about Mutations...in particular Canceled Check. I had read in a book a while ago that the "everything and the kitchen sink" ending on the song was a result of you all literally throwing around a bunch of percussion and noise makers in the studio. Always left a really cool mental image....

One more question about Mutations....just before Sing it Again Beck says "should we do another one?" some one pipes up with a "damn right." Is that you? Just curious.....

To avoid near-teenage-girlish gushing about how much I appreciate your work I'll just say thank you for all you do...and KEEP DOING IT!

Any more recollections you'd like to share about the recording of Mutations (I know it's been discussed briefly here) would be GREATLY appreciated. Certainly one of my favorite albums of all-time...ALWAYS in any desert island list I make.

Mutations? It was so so fun. And super intense. Wake up, go to studio, learn new song. Track basic, do overdubs, do vocals. Dinner. Mix, put it down to 1/2". Go home at 1. Next day, same routine. 18 days later, had about that many songs. Awesome. Lots of fun was had. Smokey actually RAN into a full percussion rig head-first for one particular "overdub".

"Runners Dial Zero" was mixed by me and the 2nd engineer, because we ran out of time on the last day when the car service came to take Nigel to the airport.

So many anecdotes.

Do you get extra pay for endangering your safety on a session? Hazardous duty pay?

Mutations is a fabulous record, and probably the Beck album dearest to my heart....Was wondering JMJ, that record has some interesting synthy sonic flavor here and there (Cold Brains jumps to mind)...is that all Roger Manning, or is any of it pedal soundscapes c/o you?

Cold Brains is a lot of Roger Manning rocking the Gleeman Pentaphonic synth with delays. Not sure what else is on there. Sometimes atmosphere was just things like delicate percussion in near infinite reverbs and chambers. Lovely.
