yeah, you may be right....I've been looking for something in Baltic Birch plywood which is pretty light. When Carvin was in the amp business they made bass cabs from that stuff and they were pretty light. i remember borrowing one once and i was amazed how light it was. Thanks, this is good information for me to think on...(True) Baltic Birch is not a light wood, it's quite heavy (and expensive). We moved to Italian Poplar which is much lighter, very strong but also expensive.
It's the combination of lighter materials, lighter assembly methods (including bracing) and lighter drivers that makes lighter speakers.
