Question about old Peavey Max Bass 700

My main amp is as mentioned above, a Max Bass 700. I really like the amp and the power it delivers. I ran across an old thread though, and was curious about something said in it.

in this thread
Is there any difference between a Peavey Max 700 & Firebass?

@BbbyBld Bld talks about the transformer in a Firebass being sourced originally for a PA and only half of it being used. So, in my brain which is not so familiar with electronics of this type, I naturally came up with the question, can I light up the other half, bridge it and double my power or give myself a stereo channel? Or is the other half of the transformer being used for something else? Seems a waste to throw in a transformer that heavy, because it makes up a considerable portion of the weight of this thing, and not use it to its capabilities.
Otherwise, the amp is awesome. I love that it takes pedals so well, but turning the contour knob up to 10 gives that nice mid-scoop hard rock tone without any other fx needed.
