Question about sound producing.

First, i want to thank you (once again), for the dreamy moment you make me lived during your performance in Les arènes de nimes, France with Nine Inch Nails. It's been 2 years now, i'm 16 years old and it's still one of my greatest memory. THANKS.

I am really curious about the guitar sounds you made during the break of "The Wretched" (YouTube - ‪7. The Wretched - This One Is On Us presents "Another Version Of The Truth : The Gift"‬‏, the sound is about 3min11). Could you please give me some indications about how to make such sounds ? With what kind of pedals ?

My second question is about making electronic and polyrythmic beats. The kind of sounds i wanna get is kinda proeminent in the Ghosts work and Year Zero. I'm using Native Instrument and Abelton Live. Do you have any tips to make such Beats? Or some intersting effect i could use ? I thought about making layers of different modulated drum beats, is this the way it works ? I know it's that kind of large question...But if you have anything

HI, sorry - missed your post earlier:

1) That's just echo, delay, a touch of modulation, and a wah wah. Nothing particularly fancy.

2) That's too big of a question to answer. Why don't you use Maschine as a stand-alone for a while, of you have that? It's great for making beats like that. It's all about your sound choices and sound design, though. That will inspire you immensely. As far as "how", it's something you have to just keep diving into. I might suggest that at first you try actually programming EXACTLY some beats on records that you like. Literally try to copy them: sonically and rhythmically. Doing that a number of times might be just the tutorial you need.

Good effects that are inspiring for that kind of thing are Beat Repeat in Live (especially if you split the drum track amongst several tracks and use different settings for each), and also Stutter Edit from Izotope.
