I tried to find one clip of it on youtube, but had no luck. the closest clip I can find is this one. this one is a passive hadean bass.
It seems to have a nice punchy sound. the chick in the clip uses a line 6 pod hd500 along with the hadean bass.
I literally just received this bass in the red color today. I play guitar, but wanted a bass guitar to have in my studio to lay some tracks down with and for $150 (red one is on sale), I figured if anything it'll be okay..
I was in the same boat as everyone else. I took a chance since I couldn't really find many reviews at all on it. I was going to get the 5 string Squier Vintage Modified 70's bass, but decided to try this out first.
So far I'm really impressed. The bass looks fantastic. The neck is wider than I expected (not a bad thing). The neck is a 'D' profile but not Ibanez thin. It actually fits my hand perfectly and feels nice. The strings are perfectly centered on the neck and the pole pieces of the pickups. I was a little worried that the alignment would be off or something stupid like that.
The tuners seem fine and do not feel cheap. The bridge is a thicker mass version of a fender bass bridge. I almost bought a badass bridge the other day before I had received the bass thinking the one on the bass was going to be thin and cheap. I'm glad I didn't. I think the bridge will be fine. The bridge does have holes to do a string through.. but there are no holes or ferrules on the back.
All the frets ends are smooth and that shocked me. The fretboard is really dark rosewood. Makes me think it's actually dyed, but it looks good. I do have some buzzing when fretting some notes, but I've literally not done anything to this bass except pulling it out of the box and tuning it up. I really don't plan on doing anything to it for a day or so to let it acclimate since it's been on the road in a cardboard box since last Tuesday, pretty much due to a delay by UPS so I had to wait till today to get it.
I saw somewhere else that someone said it was raw wood. It's not raw wood. It has a flat or matte finish. You can feel the grain ever so slightly, but I really, really like that it is this way. The wood selection on the red model is gorgeous. I wanted the blue, but they didn't have them. It is an angled headstock with a volute. The headstock does has a 'Hadean' water slide type decal on the top, but I'm going to sand that off and may put my own on it..
The knobs are the basic push on type chrome knobs. There are 4 knobs. I thought that there would be 2 volumes, 1 for each pickup, then the other 2 for the EQ, treble and bass. It's actually setup as 1 master volume, 1 blend control between the 2 pickups, and the treble and bass. That somewhat made me a bit giddy for some strange reason. I guess you could say I even like this bass that much more!
The pots are the small overseas cheap type. I'll be replacing these with some CTS or Bourne pots and
The routes for the pickups are extremely precise and clean. I would guess a CNC was used. The routing for the rear cavity was also pretty nice and clean.
How does it sound? It actually sounds great! I've been able to dial in quite a plethora of tones from this thing. I had read that the 2 band pre-amp system would need to be replaced, but I like it. I think it's the perfect purchase for my studio.
Would I buy it again? Honestly... I'd buy more than 1 again. I am seriously considering buying another one in the natural, and if they ever bring back the blue, I'll be buying that one in a heartbeat. It is a beautiful bass that feels way more expensive than it is and it sounds pretty darn good too.. Anyone that is starting out could absolutely not go wrong with this one, or if you are looking for an extra bass or your first 5 string. I still have to check the fret leveling, adjust the truss rod, set intonation, etc but even out of the box tuned up, I'm surprised.

Looks very nice, thanks for the review. If you have the time, consider posting a review in the "reviews" section so folks will find it more often. I've wondered about these Hadean Basses. They seem too good to be true, but I recently purchased a Hadean Bass uke and I was blown away. It had none of the rough fretwork that I was expecting and it seems very well built. It has a similar (blue in my case) thin finish that you can feel the wood through. I'm assuming it's just a thin layer of poly over a stain and no grain filler.
My theory is that this thin finish probably saves quite a bit of time and that it may be largely responsible for the low cost of Hadean solidbody instruments.
the finish on that Hadean looks a lot more 'matte' than the pics on the website - is that in fact the case? If so, I love it - and might have to buy one as a mod platform

...Which is the same bass discussed in this thread. The link works, but it is out of stock and a search on rondomusic yields no results. Has anybody had any luck seeing these basses around? Are they just temporarily out of stock?
And maybe a more answerable question, to anybody that still owns one. Can you grab the dimensions for the pickups? I was thinking I might be able to throw some of these new Big BladeMan pickups in there: Big BladeMan 5

When I bought my Link Removed I could not find the link through the Rondo website navigation. Just use your search engine for the exact model name and you should find the page. Your link goes to the correct page, but both the NM & RD models are out of stock. You can try emailing Rondo to find out if they will have the Vickers back in stock in the near future.

Your review in this thread was one of the deciding factors for my purchase after this model was recommended to me on another forum. I also got the red one. I love it! It sounds great! I wish I had read your post again after the purchase because I some trouble determining the exact function of the knobs. I did figure it out on my own, but you have it spot-on. I really appreciate the design of the electronics in this model. I find them really easy to dial in the sound I want out of this guitar.
I've only had one problem out of mine. The neck pickup cable had just enough shield (like 1mm) sticking out from under the heat-shrink insulation to short out the hot terminal of the bridge pickup on the pickup blend pot. I wrapped some electrical tape around it and problem solved! Full signal from both pickups now (bridge pickup was intermittent before).
I can't comment on the strings that came with it because I immediately changed them out to some DR flatwounds. I had to drill out the pass-though holes of the bridge for the thickness of the cloth-wrapped ball-ends of the strings. The guitar played right out-of the box, but I did a setup on it anyway along with the string change. Intonation had to be adjusted a little along with the nut, but I'd expect that out of any new guitar that's on the budget end of things especially.
You're welcome! I did eventually do a complete fret leveling which honestly in the end didn't really even need to be done, but I wanted to make sure as I was getting a little buzzing on a few frets. Only required very minor leveling. I didn't have the issues with the shielding on the pickups, but the battery is not being disconnected when I remove the cable so I need to get in there sometime and see why. I end up with a dead battery every time I use the bass and hang it back up.
I have seen this complaint several times about Rondo active guitars and basses. People seem to assume that they are wired incorrectly, but my guess would be that the problem is similar to the one I had. I'd recommend checking for any exposed pickup cable shield that may be coming in contact with pot terminals or other possible shorts like that. The wiring inside my Hadean Vickers TR RD looked surprisingly professional, IMO. The amount of exposed cable shield that was causing the short circuit was very small indeed. Additionally, all of the circuitry besides the pots are inside a sealed IC box. So, I speculate that not very many units like this would be wired incorrectly.
