question about volume pedals...

has anyone seen a volume pedal without a treadle? like something MXR-sized, but with a volume pot, for instance. the important thing here being that it can go from zero to, say, 10db of boost or something. does something like this (silly as it may seem) exist?

(i'm assuming something like this would be amazingly easy to build, too...)

reason: i don't want/need the whole big volume pedal for my application. i'm just looking for something to attenuate the signal when i plug my sterling in (i would turn it on when the sterling's in, and off when the passive jazz is in). i'm only checking this out because the hotness (:D) coming from my sterling clips the input of some of my effects.

thanks!

i've got a solution that i'm running with for now... i'm using my old boss PQ3B parametric EQ pedal. each parameter has a freq selection knob as well as a boost/cut knob. there's also an overall level boost/cut (+/- 18dB, i believe). i've set all the freq and boost/cut levels flat (so there's no change in tone), and the overall level to ca. -13dB. it's working quite well... but i was wondering if anyone else makes something like this (without all the EQ).

Interesting, but it's cut-only, no boost.

you're right... but something like that would serve my purpose as well. as long as it's completely clean. all i'm looking for, really, is an attenuator for my active bass. i'd turn it on when playing the sterling, and off when playing the jazz. EDIT: having a boost would be a nice extra feature, but not completely necessary. sorry for the misleading info!

something else: if i'd be putting this after my multicomp (compressor) in the chain (ie, it'd be the second pedal), would i need an active volume pedal (like the 25k ernie ball) or would a passive (like the 250k ernie ball) work just fine?

If I was you, I would put it in front of the compressor, not after, so that you don't have to adjust your compressor settings when changing basses.

good point... then again, i've found a setting on the EBS that works quite well for both basses (the only setting to change is the active/passive switch [which should really be a little more accessible and/or easier to switch]).

A passive volume cut will work just fine for an active bass.

fantastic! thanks for that. :hyper:
