Question for New Yorkers

Not really a fan of that guy for multiple reasons. There are some nice folks who work in that GC though, don't get me wrong. He's just not one of them.

I live in NYC and NEVER buy anything here. I always find better deals elsewhere.

Guitar Center in suburban Philly does way better deals than the one in nyc.
Sweetwater will do 10% above dealer cost if you patiently work on a relationship there.

Ash will "match" price ... if its an advertised price. I can get that suburban GC to go under normal dealer cost (they buy way under a normal dealers cost)(but I don't think Fender sells to them under other dealers prices).

I think the "relationship" is the key anywhere. I've had the guys at Ash call a GC and beat a price for a guitar that was hanging on their wall and discounted - they did the same for an amp. Not just match - they did better by a small amount (like 10 bucks).

Not so. I work a few blocks from 48th Street, I'm at the music stores very frequently. Strings, for example, are cheaper there than they are in NJ. Basses are competitively priced.

Interesting, as I've always shopped the Manhattan stores for variety and elsewhere for the best price. Maybe something changed? Recessionary pricing?

Rudy's had every pedal you can imagine, but only like 2-3 basses in the shop @ the time.

You do know the Bass Department is up on the 3rd floor, right? I've never seen fewer than about 30 or 40 basses at Rudy's any time in the past 10 years. But yes, there are usually only 2 or 3 basses in the ground floor display window.

It's a small shop, but packed with guitars and basses. Some unbelievable stuff in there, including 1 of 40 Warwick Buzzard LE's designed for the Ox.

It's about a 25 minute train ride (NJ Transit's NE Corridor Line to Metuchen is the closest stop) from Penn Station in NYC.

Maybe - I've found that the attitudes there have changed for the better over the years.

Yeah, he's kinda of a sourpuss. Took me a while to warm up to him, like a couple years but he' fair.
