Question for Smallsound Mini owners????

For those of you with Smallsound Bigsound mini's, I have a question/request.

How does it sound with medium to high gain and the bass knob fully off?

Is the bass totally cut out so that all you hear is the treble bite?

Or does it still have bass content, just lessened a little bit?

I ask because I love using certain dirts as lo-fi treble only distortion for solo breaks or punctuation in certain musical situations. I love bass totally cut out in this scenario. I was using a Dungeon Master, but the distortion was so over the top it lost clarity. I'm thinking the lower to medium gain on the Mini, coupled with the control over the bass content will work, but just want to make sure the bass is pretty much totally cut out.

Also, any chance you might be able to post a demo of this? One with bass fully on, one with bass in the mid position and one with bass fully off? That would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, a simple description will be good enough.

Thanks!

I think it would work well in that scenario. I usually have the bass knob cranked all the way, so fully off would be very light on bass. The mini was made for guitar, so no bass is really no bass.

Love the mini. Great pedal. I don't use it like you are proposing, but it would work.

Sorry no demo.

i noticed after doing a little testing just now that you're right - you won't be getting the drastic bass cut that i think you're looking for. that being said, i can tweak that value to get you more of what you're looking for. i'll email you.

edit* nevermind, i'm mixing people up... @MGR i think i know who you are and i'll try and get you what you want. @kbakerde hit me up again if you want and i can do the same for you if you're interested.

double edit* though i agree with @kbakerde - if that's the main sound you want the triumvirate will probably get you there easier since the design is tailored more for that type of thing.

I'd be happy with just a regular Mini, Brian. ;) (top jacks of course)

Thanks Brian. The purple one going to Kappock st in the Bronx is mine. If it would be possible to tweak it for total bass cut that would be great, but if it comes at the expense of lowered bass response when the knob is full on, leave it stock. I appreciate the offer whatever you decide to do.

I had a triumvirate and agree it can easily do the bass cut effect, I found the actual sound of the treble band to be a little too harsh on its own. The Dungeon Master got the closest since it has full cut, but the gain is so high the sound wasn't quite articulate enough. That's sort of why I wanted to get a Mini, so I could have bass cut with a lower gain sound.

What about just a variable high pass filter in line with your other stuff? I know EQ was already mentioned, but having a sweepable cutoff control ought to make dialing in the right amount of cut very easy to do by ear.

There are a handful of filters on the market that offer multiple modes, high pass filters by themselves are rare or non-existent in the pedal market.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like to get the effect using two different distortion pedals though. One with bass fully cut and another at normal settings. I find that eq'ing bass out of just one pedal is a little one dimensional sounding.

There is the Broughton HPF though. I believe sfx can also do one.
