Questions about a GK 400rb and cabs

Hello.

Long story short, I just bought a gk 400rb (passive refrigeration on the back), and paired it with a Fender rumble 112 cab, wich works at 8ohms.

I thought it'd sound loud, but wasn't impressed at first sight.

So if you please to help me a bit, I ask you people:

1. I love tool. Do you have any recommended settings for the amp?

2. What does the three way switch in the back of the cab do?

3. How would that switch in the cab help me with regards of the tone i'm after?

4. Should I get a 2*10 cab?

5. If so, should it be a 4 or 8 ohm cab, considering the 8 ohms 112 I already have.

6. Is that seismic pa dj 400 2*10 cab any good? I'm really on the budget, and is hella cheap on Amazon right now.

1. JCs bass tone is his hands playing a Wal bass. You can get relatively close, but without knowing more info it’s hard to say

2. Exactly what it says. It turns the horn on, off, or attenuates (turns it down) it by 6db

3. Not to sound snarky, but try it and find out. That’s the easiest way :)

4. Why?

5. If you’re going to run it with another 8 ohm cab it would need to be 8 ohms. The amp can only handle a 4 ohm load

6. I’ve never played one but I’d save your money and figure out what you actually want. Don’t just go and buy something because somebody told you that you need a 210.

It should get fairly loud. Try turning your master all the way up and use the volume for the level you need. Turn the boost up to around noon and adjust to taste. Set eq to taste with the starting point of everything in the middle setting (noon). 400rb's like to be pushed and this is how most use them

'Fairly loud' is relative. An RB400 and 1x12 should get plenty loud enough in the living room to bother anyone in neighboring rooms or apartments. Put up against a guitarist with a 100w stack if will struggle.

I would buy damn near anything used off Craigslist before I bought something from the bargain basement of 'pro audio' off Amazon.

I have been running a 400RB II for the last 8 or so years, steady. For me to get THE sound out of it that I love so much, I want the more or big speakers. 1x15 minimum. I pair it with a Heritage 410HLF. I tried to use it with a single 1X12 (rumble) and a Markbass 2X10 but the magic just wasn’t there for me.

Thanks for your replies! The thing is, the 112 (8ohms) struggles with the guitar, so I thought another cab (112 ot 210) would do.

Wich one would be a better cab? How would you wire the other cab?

The amp does have a second plug for a cab, but I burned that thing with a deffective cable, and am too scared now to mess with those things on my own.

Hello! I just got a sweet deal on a rumble 112 cab, so now i'll have two.

Now, how do i plug the second cab? Should i just use a speaker cable from the second plug on the amp straight into the second cab, or should i plug the second cab to the first one (it has two plugs on the back).

Please help me

“Pushing” that head into it will leave you with needing a new cab sooner than you can afford to replace it.
Take it easy for now, and keep an eye on the used market for a cab that can handle that head.

This is it. Save your pennies. Keep scanning local used listings. Buy a cab at some point that can take it when you push that head. That's how you'll get closer to the sound you're after.

By the way, what else is in the signal chain? What bass? What kind of pickups and strings? Any effects?

Also, roughly, where are you, geographically speaking?

I use a Fender jazz bass, with rotosound Billy Sheehan strings.

My signal is like this: tuner, loop pedal (inside the loop, bass whammy, Hartke bass attack 2, deluxe Big muff pi, chorus, flanger, delay), then out of the loop to an Aby pedal wich i use for biamping ocasionally.

I live in Colombia.

Now, I know I don't have a wal, but I want to get as close as I can, and hopefully find a sweet tone for myself

here is mine with two single twelves. i also run it with with two single fifteens.

Go that direction or get an eight ohm 210 and add another identical one in the future.

Oh, sweet!

I plugged both 112's and maaannnnn. I just smiled when I heard the house shake.

Today I tried the effects loop. The big muff pi and the Overdrive circuit from the bass attack 2 sound weak, or thin, or I don't know. The modulation pedals sounded really good.

Here's a crappy picture of my setup.

distortion is best upstream of the input. go like this — bass guitar > pedals > amp > cab — i never use the fx loop on my gk amps. Modulation effects do well in effects loops but you can also keep it simple and run them ahead of the input.

Sometimes you need to stick a jumper in the fx loop of old 400rb amps otherwise the amp cuts out.
