Questions about active EMG pickups, and install

when you look at the diagrams on the EMG website, the P-40 has a maximum recomended string width of 3.25", and the 40J has a 3.125" max recommended. The 40DC doesen't say.

It shows that the coils go as far as 3.4" in all of them. So who knows, the other ones might work, but it looks like they don't recommend it.

I have 16.5mm string spacing, which ends up being 3.248" at the bridge.

The measurement should be taken at the point the pickup crosses the bridge, not at the bridge. That what matters in this instance. That should give you the room you need for the pickups. What is the width of the strings at each pickup?

It's about 2 7/8" at the neck pup, and about 3" at the bridge pup. Looks like I was wrong about the string spacing, looks to be more like 15.5mm. Funny, I didn't think it was that tight.

So, maybe they will work after all, even though they're marketed as a 5 string pickup (40J), maybe I'll get one any way. Along with the P-40, it should be a killer combo.

I look forward to seeing how this goes. Let us know how it sounds Dan.
