I don't think it has quite the same connotation in the US as it does in the UK. But it's still an international site and I think it should adhere to quality standards in all the places this can be read.

About time for a mini-update. 
I sawed off some scraps from the Bubinga and turned this rollerball pen.
I'm hoping the laminate top will be nice and red with an oil finish on it. This pen came out on the orange/brown side.
Also, a machinist from the Warmoth forum did this neckplate for me, which will go on the finished guitar.
I've shipped the woods off to the TB'er who is going to prepare the blank. I can't wait to see it when it's prepared.

I wish you well with your practice build and "real" build. I think you should work on your joining skills; are you preparing the two halves with a jointer, a handplane, or just gluing them up as they arrive? I am asking because the joint in these pictures doesn't look nearly as clean as most builders achieve, and may not be as durable.
Not trying to be critical; just trying to make sure that your build with the "good" wood comes out well.

The "real" body will be planed, jointed and glued by a fellow TalkBasser.
This practice body was a 2 piece Alder blank that I got on eBay, which was already glued up.
The line you see running down the center of the front and back is a pencil mark, as I wanted to make sure the center line was nice and visible.
. Guess it must be the grey smearing round the bottom front.
I haven't been working on the practice body lately, but it's almost done.
The neckplate arrived, and it looks even cooler than the first picture made it out. The engraving exposes the copper layer between the metal and the black plating, which gives it a really cool visual depth.
The Bubinga board has been resawn to form the bookmatched lam top!
The wood looks extremely brown here, but hopefully it's going to look nice and red/orange in the end.
