Questions about Sober by Tool

The "problem spot" for me is from the end of the "solo" section with the stop rhythm (3:52) to the end of the piece. My ears are hearing Eb, but every tab/transcription I see has the bass playing all the stop rhythms with D octaves. Is it just the guitar playing the Eb?

Also, in the bass "solo" section at 4:21 I'm having the same problem. All the transcriptions of the riff are in D, but it sounds like they are alternating between D and Eb (and the guitar is playing something up high).

How do you guys play it?

I play it in D..kinda follow the guitar a bit too which may be wrong....D, D#, F on a few licks. Are you tuned to E?

It just seems to me like there should be some more "Eb" stops in the bass, but maybe that's just in my head?

To my ears he is continuing the D on the low string the whole time while riding the upper strings mostly in D and A (pseudo power chords, kinda like Geezer Butler) and occasionally throwing in passing notes on the A string that follow the guitar chords. This seems counter intuitive on paper but the dissonance seems to work.

hbarcat, thanks. That's how it's tabbed, and I figured they were doing the dissonance on purpose, but I just wanted to check. The old bassist in the band played Eb with the guitar...

After this post, I jumped on youtube to see..I am missing some parts.
It is in D mostly, but there is some G to D# and in the chorus it goes to F to g on the whole notes part....at the end he's doing a riff...D to F {a string} to D to A on the D string. kinda of a odd part.

Sounds like your bass is out of tune.
