Quick question about clear coat....laquer...

I looked around but did not see any step by step posts about clear coating a bass that is not already clear coated. Already painted, etc...but was not clear coated from the factory.

What is the best to use? should I spray it on using an air compressor or is there a can spray on? Low end bass, but wanting to protect the finish nonetheless.

Links to clear coat/laquer would be much appreciated.

Thanks a million!

do you have any pictures of it?
also have you ever painted using a spray gun and compressor before?
i'd love to help i airbrush guitars cars and motorbikes but unless i know what exp you have and a little more detail on what your trying to achieve its a bit of a stab in the dark

Just bought it from a TBer...will have it next week sometime.

I have painted using a spray gun before but never clear coated anything. The painting was basement walls....nothing like a car or guitar or anything.

Here are some pics

agreed it looks like a satin finish to me
I apologize: I need to ask a question also pertaining to the OP's clear coat query.. One of my Fenders will need some more clear coating as well. It is a USA Fender.. painted black.. What coating is appropriate to NOT change the black? I want to retain the black without any yellowing.

OP: Also looking forward to seeing your bass after you've done the proposed clear coat, plus the addition of the new pickups.. thats a fine-looking paint scheme . . :)

Thanks! I love the color too...my g/f said it looks like a watermelon :(

I think I am going to try to put 3 different sets of pups in it...each set has its own volume control....so I could put in EMGs, Barts, and whatever else. I am going to get a Fender neck and replace the current neck.....can't wait to get it and get started!

I think I am going to hold off on clear coat right now....the bass just looks too pretty in person and I don't want to jack it all up.

The pups sound surprisingly good...but I think I am going to replace them all later on....are there better tone pots?
