Alright so im trying to devise a plan to see what, if any marketability my instruments will have, but im not sure if it is allowed.

Basically my idea is to make a bass of my own design, and post a progress thread, then when it is complete, try and sell it relitivily cheap on the classifieds. Is this talkbass legal?

Also i would like some opinions on how many strings i should use and weather or not to make it solit or hollow body and also fretted or fretless, im looking for the most marketable combo because its a custom instrument but its not going to be made for any particular person. four string solid fretless? six string hollow fretted? im not sure what would be most popular. the more opinions, the more accurate i can be.

When I go try out some instruments in music stores, I find the most popular to be 5 string solid fretted. But as far as 'boutique' basses go... Ive tried a few six strings and the good old 4 strings but still, 5 string tuned BEADG seems to be the most popular. Jason has some good advice in the previous post

I believe that the sale side has been covered and building one to sell in the classifieds is not allowed. However, selling one that you built for yourself in the classifieds is acceptable on special occasion.
