Quilted Maple or Figured Walnut?

It's funny, Carvin just called me to verify that I want the neck to show. I actually prefer seeing the neck, so I told them not to cover it.
If you were doing the quilted top under a colored finish, I would probably cover it. But with the dark walnut top and the maple/walnut neck-I'd go the way you're going.
That look reminds me of the old Ibanez/Aria neck thru's from the late 70's early 80's which I love dearly.
Just got the postcard today from Carvin. "We expect it to be completed on 4/23/10".
And ship on the 23rd it did.
Just received it about three hours ago. Build quality and workmanship is outstanding. Really impressive. Setup was perfect. I immediately yanked the stock strings and put on fresh Chromes. I've only played it a little, but it feels wonderful and sounds great. Lots of groovy tones to be had. I'm looking forward to hearing it with the band, but that won't be until next week.

great photography. congrats on the new bass. it looks amazing. you made the right choice with the walnut.
walnut can be really nice, but with carvin its a bit more inconsistant- some of their walnut (or any companys walnut, rather) can look amazing, others can be a little plain looking. but my old walnut carvin was a real looker..

I normally prefer quilted maple but with that particular bass, especially the non-covered neck-thru, I prefer walnut.
I have to say that yours is particularly gorgeous! The figured walnut is as pretty as I've seen, and I'm glad you didn't cover the neck-thru because the contrast is way cool. Congrats!
