My 2 cents about the ohm issue: if I had a 4 ohm 2x10 and a 8 ohm 1x10, I would use them @ 2.67 ohm

• For me the purpose of trying that is not be play louder (I'm already loud enough with a 8 ohm cab), but I expect a better tone & dispersion. So I don't think I would ever need to push the amp to the point where it would struggle @ 2.67 ohm.
• Even if you come to the point where the BB803 struggles, you won't break it: first you would see the red led blink, then after a while if you ignore that signal, the amp would go in protection mode, but it wouldn't be damaged.

I'm with you on the 2.67ohm scenario. If I go that route, your stated goals would be mine also.

Is it possible the cabs would be in danger before the amp, though?

Again, I wouldn't be diming the volume. Just getting that 1x10 on top of the 2x10 and closer to my ear would probably lower my volume anyway.

So I received my V803 yesterday and I was lucky enough to get the badge and certificate for the first 100 amps. The code was for a free bag! First off I bought this amp with out trying it first. I read and watched videos about it and it seemed like an amp that would work for me. I expected to like and use the modern setting but to my surprise I’m in love with the warm and Qtube setting. The Qtube setting sounds full and warm with a little grit. I was playing my P bass through it and I couldn’t put it down! I did try my Jazz bass as well but it didn’t sound anywhere as cool as my P bass. I got cut short in my exploring of the amp by my wife but I’d like to try the Jazz bass on the modern setting. I was also just using one 12” 8 ohm cab. I’d like to add the other one and see how the amp sounds at 4 ohms. My neighbors are going to love me today!

Would love to hear about the power of the Warm setting with the Super Twin. Mine takes my Forte HP. Am I spoiled with 1200 into 1200, never past 12 oclock on the master. ? idk

I have been using with my Mesa Subway 112 cabs. Sound great!

That’s awesome Tom! Appreciate the info.. I’ve frankly been amazed by my Quilter 802 combo (I have an extra 1-12 Quilter cab as well) and have played a lot of gigs the past couple of years with mainly just the single cab (with FOH support) - essentially using it as a stage monitor, and it’s been spectacular! I’m very intrigued by the v803, and I’m definitely gonna have to get one soon !

Received mine today. Love the warm voicing / the input voicing options in general. All these options deliver a gerat variety of sound without even touching the EQ. I only played it with a Stingray Special and Cobalt Flats through a PJB C4 but the sound is GREAT within seconds!

In comparison to my BB800 the fan is more quiet and the the pop when turning the unit on is almost completely gone.
I really liked my trusty old BB800 and plan on keeping it around as it's excellent for using with preamps. (I even had it mounted on a pedal board at some point.) I still really dig the minimalistic approach of it.

The BB803 has the same great feel with more voicing and EQ options. What's not to love?

Just ordered my Quilter v803, will be here on Friday ! Have a gig Saturday afternoon , & will put it thru its paces , should be fun ! Edit: I’ll be using it with a 1/12” Quilter cab, (with FOH support) doubtful I’ll need the extra cab, but I may bring it along just in case.

I played an arena last year, (at a rodeo) & there was around 8,000 people in attendance, and my stage rig was my Quilter bass block 802, with 2 Quilter cabs (12” cabs each) and had plenty of stage volume. The Quilter gear puts out some amazing sound with 2 cabinets , especially for its size & portability, even a single 12” is very suprising how much it will put out. We always have ample FOH sound tho.

First 4 pics with the red coated copper are of an 802, the last 2 are 803.
All I can tell is that there are definitely some differences in the brand of some components between the two. It’s not the exact same thing with more additions, just built somewhere else. However, that may be better, worse or not mean a thing. Will test them back to back on Wednesday with a 8x10.

Just finished up comparing my 802 to the new 803 with an ampeg 8x10

The pros:
The midrange knob+freq is much more intuitive and better to control. It feels like I have more control of the shape of the sound I’m getting. Compared to the 802, the 802 feels way less dynamic.

“Warm” seems to be the best overall if you know your running pedals. It’s better than modern to me and that was what the 802 was most “similar” to.
Q tube is great if you want to crank the gain and get what seems like a true natural distortion, it’s pretty awesome actually and doesn’t sound like you’re running a pedal for distortion.
Obvi the DI Is huge improvement too.

The cons:
When comparing the 803 (modern) to the 802, it feels like the 802 sounds slightly better out of the box. Like it feels like it’s got a little more substance/depth, a hair bit more headroom. That’s about it.

If you know you’re only using this for live and with pedals the 803 is a great touring amp imo, prob would choose over the 802 now for that.
If you are one to use these quilters to record (with pedals), then the 802 may give you what you need more.

I think I didn't make my joke clear. You said '1/12" Quilter cab' so the joke was that you meant one-twelfth of an inch. I know you mean 1x12".

Yeah I didn’t catch the joke lol.. I indeed meant a 1x12 cab.. anyhow, I’m looking forward to the Quilter.. I’ve had zero issues with my 802 & have a lot of faith in their reliability, as well as loving the punch they pack.

Yeah, I know they are still available at several big retailers. I just happened to be on SW ordering a bag for mine (which I think was also the last one they had).
