.... How does it sound with the Super Twin? Hoping the Warm, turns the BF 12 sound into a BF 10 sound...which my tube pres seem to do a bit.

Quilter Bass Block v803

With the small difference that in the USA, when SW is out of stock you can order from… Quilter direct, wheras from Europe, I can't order from Quilter.
So I just caved and placed an 803 order direct from Quilter. I'll be gigging it with a Supertwin so will report back once I've put it through its paces.
I just got a BB800 a few months ago, which took over duties from a Mesa D800, and gigged the 2nd half of the summer with it. Can't wait to see how this compares.
Maybe if you goose the mids a bit, but I would think the Qtube with somewhat lower Gain and some EQ'ing would get closer.
Anybody else get one of these yet? Really close to pulling the wallet out. The qtube thing sound as organic in person as it does in the video reviews?

Just got mine in today , and it’s really awesome! I haven’t compared it directly to my Quilter 802, or docked it into my extra 1x12 cab just yet, but I just finished playing it for a good bit. Played it through my Lowend 2x12 (made by Brian Barrett) & it’s a 4 ohm cab, the Quilter v803 sounds superb! It really does offer several different “feels” between the 3 different amp settings, and the two different inputs (flat & scooped) I can tell that it slams every bit as hard as my 802, but I feel it is more versatile, tonally speaking- I did get the certificate of having one of the first 100
made. Anybody who already loves the Quilter bass block series, will adore this new v803! If you’re on the fence about purchasing one, I say go for it! You won’t be disappointed.
I finally sold my BB800 and ordered the 803.

Really preferred the DI tones vs the mic'd. Maybe a different mic or placement might've been better, but that's really not the point. The DI, especially on the warm and qtube with the built in cab sim sounds good.
Curious about this from the manual:
"It is OK to run the amp without a speaker connected, for headphone or silent recording."
Considering the size and weight of the 803, and based on what to my ears sounded like a very nice DI, this amp could be used on ampless gigs, no? Just as a DI more or less?

Funny. I have an 800 Had an 802. Sold it. Somehow the 800, has some secret sauce lacking in the 802. I am completely intrigued by the 803... Honestly I think Pat hit it over the fence with the 800 and was probably suprised that there was consternation over his simple yet sophisticated approach to the eq. The 800 EQ maybe not as feature rich, is effective. I consider the bb-800 near to the perfect bass amp. That won't stop me from trying an 803 of course... but that 800 is staying home!

Funny, I agree 99% but I sold the 800 in order to buy the 803 anyway because:
- Even though I love the magic simplicity of the 800's EQ, I believe there's nothing I was able to do with the 800 that I won't be able to do with the 803, and even with 4 four EQ knobs instead of 2, it remains simple and straightforward.
- Even more than the EQ, for me the best feature of the 800 was the limiter in the gain section that provides "heft", and the "modern" voice of the 803 is identical to the 800.
- I had bought a hybrid amp (JF Sisma) to complement the BB800 mainly for warmer and more tubey sounds. I hope the 803 will replace that with its 3 voices, despite the lack or real tube. What magic with the 803's voicing system is that you can change that color by the flick of a switch, whereas with Sisma if I want a super clean sound in a song and a warmer sound in the next song, I have adjust both the gain and the master volume in order to keep the same output level.
- Financially I could have kept the 800 but I already own too many amps and there's nothing I could do with the 800 that I won't be able to do with the 803.
I am actually considering getting this exact rig one day. I just need something smaller than my 410 rig. The Quilter head is a natural choice for me because it’s solid state, loud, and kinda matches the QSC power amp I use for my 410 cab.
This is exactly the rig I’m planning on.
8ohm or 4ohm on the MatkBass?
@gtirard When I want tubey - which is often... I run something from Sushibox FX in front of the BB800. Nobelium, Underground Accellerator or Venus X. I have also used the XLR In and used the BB800 to drive a pair of passive 1x15 subs in a club setting.
