Its inching my Subway D800+ closer to the door which has a pro-grade DI - so I guess that's my pecking order YMMV

Happily trending in my own peculiar direction.
I’ve thought the same thing several times but can’t quite seem to be able to let it go so easily (and I have the Subway DI too, so you’d think it wouldn’t be too hard). It’s a good amp too.
All this talk of not buying a BB800 for the perceived DI issue is as amusing as hell. I have NEVER had an issue with the DI on the many gigs I have used it on. I mean, do you guys really make your amp buying decision on the whether you like the DI in amp? Also, have you ever done a gig (above crappy honky tonk) where there wasn't a DI option provided for you? This just seems like such a non-issue for me, and yet there are like, hundreds of posts on it.

FWIW, when I realized a DI was that important for me, I just went ahead and got a good tube DI. I have never used an "on amp" DI that sounded as good as a dedicated one.

The BB800 has a KILLER DI!
Most soundguys can take it straight (just warn them that the signal is gonna be a little hot) and if not, i spend $20 on an in-line 25dB pad.
It’s cheaper than a dedicated quality DI and sounds great, every time.
Seriously, just try it.
I’ve only had 1 soundguy tell me the signal was too much. If i need max stage volume, i preemptively hand them the pad, and rock out.

Good to know--I haven't used the Quilter at a venue, and I have noticed that in the last 3-4 years folks tend to take my amp D.I. (and sometimes add a mic) instead of insisting we use their D.I. box. It seems the culture has sort of shifted this way, where during the preceding 10-or-so years it was all about the Radial JDI or whatever they had on-hand. (Even had a guy once insist we use his J(ensen)DI, because it was "better" than the pre-e.q. signal from the Jensen equipped output on my Demeter preamp).
I do sometimes get asked about ground lifting and padding. What's a BB800 user to do? Just slap in one of these bad boys:

I’ve yet to have a sound person give me grief over this amp’s direct signal but I’m definitely getting one of these for future purposes. The places I gig, some of them for decades, have picky sound people who have criticized past amps for being too hot. I’ve been waiting for someone to say something but it hasn’t happened yet. How much longer can this go on? I can't help but wonder with all the animated debate about the DI, how many have actually used it live, and how many are arguing the potential issues of it being post eq, post master, from a theoretical stand point.
Pretty sure everyone that's come in this thread complaining about the DI/XLR out doesn't own the amp. People like to come in here and pontificate about how this amp isn't for them for some reason or another. Makes no sense.
This is the internet, everyone knows everything especially when looking at charts and specs. I've played this bad boy and will buy one next month....don't care about the DI, it just sounds bloody awesome
It's human-nature psychology, the closer something is to perfection, the more we are bothered by the tiny flaws. If the BB800 was a crappy amp then nobody would care about the DI. 
I know it's a dead horse but the BB800 does not have a D.I. out. It has a line out and that line out functions EXACTLY as it was designed to. It also functions quite well as a D.I. with the caveat that if you change your stage volume the FOH engineer must adjust accordingly (and it's line level)

This is so true! The first time I brought this to a gig and was looking at the back (and there’s not really alot to see) I noticed this when I went to insert the D.I.
Reading these pages made me wonder what’s up with all the hoopla but I’ve yet to have any issues and I’ve played over 50 gigs easy with this amp. Most of my gigs have a rig already setup but lately I’ve been bringing the BB800 to my B.B. King’s gig and placing it on top of their GK rig, using their 410 cab, and I’ve been enjoying some of the best bass I’ve ever had in almost 20 years of playing there. I’m loving this amp and figuring it’ll be with me for at least 200 gigs this year

(which is why almost nobody else does it. Pre/post EQ? See below).
Now that someone has pointed out that the amp doesn't even have a true DI out, its moot.
If it had a true DI, whether or not it was hard wired pre or post EQ

or just didn't understand the difference) is a whole other conversation.

In case anyone is wondering, I can confirm that the Quilter into a Mesa Subway 112/115 is a great combination.
Seriously the best tone I've had in a long time. Just killer. Deep, punchy, full, powerful with absolute clarity.
It may have even kicked my compressor off my board!
I need more time with it but I think amp and Cab GAS might be gone....well at least for a month or so...haha

I agree with all of this 100%. I've been playing mostly a Jazz into mine, but today I was goofing with a P-type. OMG...
