Quilter Bass Block

Hello, BB800 users. Is it possible to use both the pasive and active inputs? My plan is to use one for bass guitar and the other one for electric upright. I will not use both at the same time. THX.

You will be better served by an AB pedal as it will make sure that the other bass is muted with the push of a button. No idea how cheap they are in the Czech Republic, but they are readily available for $50 or less in the US.

I know that it can be done by AB pedal...but I don't want to put another pedal on my board...

I take care of muting via other pedals (wireless, tuner, preamp).

I just want to know whether both inputs on BB800 work if there are jacks inserted in both of them.

I am curently doing the same using instrument input and FX loop return on my MB LM III amp...
 
It's not possible. One of them doesn't produce sound, if they are both plugged in.

The passive input doesn't produce sound, when you plug in a cable in the active input.

The active is predominant.

Throwing this out as another potential option. BB802 might (should) do it using the effects loop return (one bass in the input section and one in the return). I currently do something similar on my Pro Block 200 effects loop with a Victory V4 preamp wired in amp through mode (a feature of the pre pedal that lets you run the pre into the effects loop or turn the pre off and use the amp head; effectively it adds a channel to the amp).

That works!

I'm using a mic cable and a mic, and it works with both active and passive inputs.

The volume output seems higher in the jack inputs than the mic (line in).

But I think it's a matter of putting the bass in the active input, so the volume is lower, and adjusting the volume on the bass.

But it works.

"FX RETURN:

Returns external signals to the Master and then to the power amplifier.

Pro Tip: to play with tracks or external audio, connect the media source to Effects Return. The amplifier level will drop 4dB to allow headroom
for the tracks. Use the source’s volume to set the relative balance. The MASTER still controls overall volume of the mix. XLR signals may also be connected on the rear, leaving the FX LOOP available for normal use."

Thought the Bass Block neighborhood might appreciate this tidbit on power draw....

Backstory, I emailed the company about what the amp pulls when NOT connected to a cabinet after asking a couple places here on TB and getting a mixture of confusion and snark in the responses, including flat-out refusal to explain or offer any measurements/numbers. Guess that's par for the course these days, and since I don't have a multimeter that can handle wall current, I went to the source.

Because I give a poopie about the environment and my power bill, I didn't want to use the BB800 for extended periods at home if it would be pulling several amps' worth of current. Seems wasteful in both coal/oil and my wallet.

But Mr. Quilter himself emailed me back, and verified that the amp draws only its idle power, roughly 20W. At 120V, that rounds up to 170mA, less than a lot of pedals. At 230V, around 90mA.

Typical preamp pedal draws less than 100mA @ 9V (MXR M81, DG B7K, Sansamp BDDI) so its power is 9V * 100mA = 0,9W.

I also checked a pedal that really draws a lot of current (DG Alpha Omega Photon) because of being digital and it draws 500mA @ 9V ending up to 4,5W.

Truetone 1Spot can deliver 1700mA @ 9V so total power is 15,3W which is a lot of pedals. Of course primary power consumption is higher but I didn't find that information.

Yeah, a bit later I realized the part about pedals is bunk, thanks to me having the electrical knowledge of a 2 yr old :whistle:. But at least it's the case that the BB in no-cabinet mode is viable for efficient practice or DI recording, and that's what I'm happiest about
