Quilter Bass Block

My apologies if it's been addressed already, but I usually find myself boosting a good bit of midrange on my amps to get a nice, thick and smooth but punchy tone. Can the BB800 boost the midrange?

I've had success with the suggestion in post 228

Also, a lot of amps seem to have a build in scoop so you find yourself adding in mids to compensate. The quilter does not. It has more midrange prescence than any amp I've owned.

Thanks for the responses guys. I like the tone of my Fender Rumble 500 combo, but I find myself really pushing up the mids. Does the Quilter have more mids than the V3 Rumble series?

I've successfully converted another bass player to the Quilter! Here's a guy who has owned everything, including tons of new and older high end stuff, is a full time mastering engineer, and from the first moment he played through my BB800 was totally hooked. I agree with him that it sounds more like a "traditional" power section than anything else branded as lightweight. The 1000ASP has long been my class D gold standard, but the Quilter gives it a serious run for the money!

I remember seeing a frequency responce graph for the Rumble that showed that diming the low mids and cutting the treble would yield a "flat" frequency response. But it could've been wrong.
I myself found the Rumble to be slightly scooped, but the Rumble cab I tried (112 V1) was horribly scooped.

Anyone experience the buzzing issue with the BB800? I'm not sure if mine is acting up or if its my bass, I didn't have another bass handy to compare. Basically rolled the tone knob on my P-Bass up and it produced a loud buzz. Not sure if that is what people have been experiencing with it. Can anyone who's had to send the amp back to Quilter can chime in?

An amp won't take out the buzz that your pickups pick up, at least not without altering the tone of your instrument.

Buzz or hiss? There is the known hiss issue (had it, they fixed it, I'm super-happy). But yeah...buzz. I had a gig once where the wait staff kept going "the manager wants to know if you can do anything about that feedback."

"It's not feedback - if it was, I could do something about it. The hum is from the crap-wiring in this building - y'all got an electrician to rewire the place?" Even "altering the tone" wasn't going to help. It was a decent gig ruined by the buzz.

Admittedly, I only actually said the "It isn't feedback. If it was, I could do something about it. This is an issue with the wiring in your building", BUT....

...The gig was a an hour+ drive each way for $250 split four ways, with $30+ parking per vehicle (assuming you could find parking - took 90 minutes one time), with a food and beer menu to pricey to partake without a comp (and there was no comp). I wasn't worried about burning that bridge too much and turned down two later gigs there because I just couldn't afford to lose money playing there.

sounds like almost every wedding I've played in Westen NC. Used to play a lot at a 1% country club way up in the mountains. Lobster and raw bar buffet for the guests, chicken nuggets and mac and cheese for the band. Then we get to watch them throw away the leftovers during our set. It feels AWESOME on so many levels. On the other hand, when "at work" expect "work conditions". haha

I once got a call to play for a dinner event for some organization I can't remember at a country club. It was a mix of pop and big band music and at 20 or 21 I was by far the youngest person there. One of the other musicians was a sax player I'd played with a couple times before, and at our first break he and I both went to the bar (a no-host bar) to get a beer. The bartender said that he was instructed to not serve the band any alcohol. Fortunately a few of the guests were also there at the bar and observed our predicament. They very nicely bought us both a beer and apologized for what the organizer of the event had dictated.

This pre-dated Quilter Labs by a few decades.

Option 1: Street parking or residential neighborhood. VERY rare. Got a good spot once. Bandmate had a mile and a half walk from his car once.
Option 2: parking lot across the street. I was rounding up - i was $28
Option 3: Metro. No way with the equipment, and while the venue was next to a Metro station, none of us lived within 30 minutes of one.

True - they opened a metro station closer to my house, so with the Quilter and my current cab (as opposed to the ones I used back then), I could actually skip the drive/parking if someone else provided the PA.
