Quilter Bass Block

I have active basses, and preamp/eq pedals and I still wish the quilter had some better dedicated control of the high end. Interesting to know that modding is not out of the question, but as the quilter is my backup amp, Im pretty happy with it as is, for what I need it for. I think the next version should have a well thought out 3 band, as opposed to filters, but thats jus me

Quilters latest guitar amp releases hold hope for a full tone stack and other possible refinements/features. I think they will likely release updated versions of the 800 or other full featured models. Part of the charm of the amp is it's size/power/feature complement. I love the amp and it is what I choose to play out of the majority of the time.
I picture the 101 Reverb layout as a bass head with:
Gain-Limiter-Bass- Lo Mid-Hi Mid-Treble-Master
Input-Send-Return-Headphone/Tuner Out
Around Back:
DI Out Pre Master Volume (w/Pre/Post-Gnd Lift-Line/Mic Switches)
1/8" Aux In
2 - Speakons

No, you make a good point. The quilter is great as is, and being able to hit that price point probably relies on maintaining relative feature simplicity.

That being said, the power section in the BB800 dusts the 800+. Just IME/IMO

I've been using the Quilter 101 Mini as a practice head. It is adorable and gets an interesting range of gritty/dirty bass tones. My favorite voicing (I have the regular 101, not the reverb model shown above) is Jazz. Even with only 50/100 watts, it is really quite loud through my Carvin 2x15" stack.

I hope to pick up a Bass Block 800 one of these days. I could even imagine myself running the 101 as an effects unit pre-800 to get some gritty sounds.

That is fair. The power section of the Quilter is easily the best "feeling" of any class D I have owned/played. IMO the best part of this amp is forgetting about it when you're on the gig. It just has a great inherent tone that sits wonderfully.

I too will be very curious to hear your take on the B|Amp vs the BB800.
Part of me is drawn to the Berg for the built-in tuner and the way the "virtual" EQ knobs can't get disturbed during transport. (Because that is really the only time I ever mess with amp EQs - to make sure everything is at "noon" before powering up.)
OTOH I like how the BB800 is inexpensive yet robust. I have long felt there to be an inverse relationship between mojo and EQ knob quantity - so I definitely like the approach, here! Lack of a pre-master DI is unfortunate, but I guess I could manage. (There is something reassuring about having a standalone unit in front of the amp.)
Can you try the third set with a Trickfish and report back on all 3? ;)

I'm blocking the BB800 atop the F212 holding its own between those friedman's over 4x12's. Yes my bandmates (who are all brothers) demanded I ignore that ampeg 810 & v4pro sitting there and use my own setup. We got many compliments on our balanced sound. Primm NV.
Oh, and to top it off, the compliment from my other band, at last weekends gig, was about the singers other bands bass player. He uses a little terror over a 410 and the bass sound just disappears after the first note versus what I play through. Lol
I can say this little box is getting great appreciation from me and my band mates.

I too have the MT900 and the Peavey mMega. Oh and a Crest with a Peavey Max. Which one do I gig with full time?
The BB800.

After reading about the Quilter, I kind of figured that a lot of people might be disappointed with the lack of a treble boost and would not be crazy about adding an EQ pedal. I bet it won't be long before we see a BB800 v2 with at least a bright switch added. Personally I couldn't care less as I use the EQ on my basses and leave everything flat on my amp. I'll wait for the v2 with the bright switch and will pick up a used v1 at a discount :)

I got to hear my BB800 at a gig for the first time last night. Unfortunately it wasn't me playing it :wideyed:
I was playing guitar for a wedding band and the bass player blew his subwoofer for his PA the night before the gig so he had to use his bass amp as a sub and I had the Quilter in the car. He plugged into the head and it was running my 2 Genzler Bass Array 12's. I couldn't believe how big, yet clear it sounded. Massive tone, but you always knew what note was being played. He has a pretty extensive pedalboard and was pumping some big synthy tones through it at times. It took it all like a champ!
I can't wait until I get to play my new amp!

I feel like there are two pretty significant BB800 threads going on. I've posted a bunch of thoughts and gig reports in the other one... but her I am now.

Had another great gig with the BB800 last night. Passive 4 sting Jazz - small pedal board - BB800 - Berg CN 210. This amp is so plug and play, I just don't even think about it after about 1/2 a song. Which is fantastic, since I can think about things like my playing!!

Last night I did the Countryman DI direct out of the output of the amp, into the PA. Worked great! Also had another player sit in for a set. He was playing an active 5 string. We changed to the active input, and thats it. He sounded great. The rig handled everything - including his low B without issue (speaks to the berg 210 cab too). Sounded great. Sat in the mix perfect. Nothing harsh, no honk, no boom... just great sounding bass.

As far as the bag issue that was being discussed earlier... besides the power and speaker cable, don't you guys have a ton of other stuff you cary to gigs? Tuner, cable, extra cable, ext chord, DI box, a little flask of whisky, etc... I use a tool box from Harbor Freight that costs about 20 or 30 bucks. Works great!
