He was a great, great lesser known (but no less a giant) bassist with an amazing resume’

I was just talking to a drummer buddy about Blow By Blow, such a great recording with such a great ego-less band. I first got hip to Phil Chen with the Butts Band, very overlooked band with former Doors and a very overlooked singer, Jess Roden.

Oh No!
I just corresponded with him a couple months ago. He just moved from LA to San Diego.
One of his favorite Trinidad bands is Sparrow and he turned me on them.
He also gave me a copy of Jaco's video and how much he loved Jaco's playing

Now He s jammin with Jaco, Bob Marley & Peter Tosh in the Great Smoke in the Sky!
Here s an 1986 memo I kept with my Jaco video tape & book he gave me!
