Cliff Burton - Bass
Dime - Guitar
Vinnie - Drums

Living in Dallas it would be hard to go to a rock show and not see him. He was always out and really the nicest guy you could ever want to meet. Instant friend to strangers. would buy you a shot in a minute and talk about everything music and hockey. Great guy RIP!

I was noodling around on a bass at a guitar shop today and played a pantera riff, and the salesman I'd been talking to goes "dude, did you hear about Vinnie?" I said "You mean from Pantera? No, what?" and he told me. What a bummer. Too many of these, too close together.

Loved Pantera growing up & still do. Huge influence & saw them a bunch live and met Vinnie twice and yeah echoing evedybody else that’s said it , he was totally cool & down to earth. Bummed he died soo young.

Last time I saw him was probably 2yrs ago around 3-4AM at the Clubhouse, he came strolling in late by himself. I didn't bother him

That's sad to hear.

I remember seeing them in 1990 in a small club on their first go around when they started to hit big. Pantera went on first, then Suicidal Tendencies, and then headliner Exodus.

Oh man, that would have been a great show. I've seen S.T. & Exodus separately, but at the same show would be great.
The Exodus show I was at had people taken out on stretchers after the first 3 songs.

Being 28yrs ago, from what I barely remember, it was a great show.

Even though it's not related to the thread, I remember seeing this triple bill in 1988: Overkill, then Motorhead, headliner Slayer. Admission $17! That was one hell of a night. Because it was close to nyc, Scott Ian came up to see it, met him after the show.

And now I am dead of jealousy, even though in '88 I was young and hadn't yet discovered metal. I'm still trying to figure out how to go see Slayer's tour this year... I'm glad I got to see Pantera a couple times over the years though.

I was really saddened upon learning this. He was a modern day John Bonham. His singular tone and slow, heavy groove were one of a kind in metal.

Tonight the sky will be roaring, but it's not Thor's hammer, it's Vinnie's huge drumsticks pummeling the universe. For eternity.
