R U prepared if your stuff is stolen???

im in the process of redoing one of my warmoth basses,
and i think im going to put a serial on it so i have some way of identifying it.
its purple...shouldnt be too hard to track down.
but yeah, i was going to make a "catalog" of my gear this summer.

My main bass doesn't have any manufacturer logos or serial numbers, but it looks unique enough to not be confused with any production basses. In lieu of a serial number, what other identifying factors are there to prove I'm the owner, if it ever gets stolen?

Just signed up. Now I have to take some good pictures in which my basses' serial number is clearly visible.

Saw them come in, thanks for taking the time. Once the next version is released the serial number field and other distinguishing parts of the record will be hidden from public view to stop identity theft.

If you set up an account (free) over on Invalid Link Removed you can record approx 70 fields of information and 9 photos for your guitar. In a couple of weeks time we will be upgrading the service to include distinguishing features field and up to 25 high res photos.

We will also be bringing out a short guide to help you with your specific question.

Sadly, 90% of my musical purchases are cash based, used gear.
I do keep all my paypal and ebay receipts, and I suppose print outs of TB classifieds could work...?

Oh pish-posh. That scenario will never happen to me, as I store all my firearms/knives/batons/tasers/badger repellant in my anus. So if they somehow manage to steal my weapons before I have a chance to retrieve them, I figure they deserve all of my belongings anyway. It's a foolproof plan, you see.

This thread is a bit ironic. I just took a couple snapshots of my serial number last week because I realized I didn't have any and I have tons of pictures of my bass plus an E receipt from when I bought my bass.

All good advice. But I'd not use Photobucket for archiving files.

How many times do you see a deleted pix and it's from Photobucket when there are pixs posted here on TB? Huh?

I use Picasa which is free from Google and you can upload a bucketfull (sic) of pixs of your gear or carrots and they are there forever. Well - at least until Armageddon, and it won't matter much then.

I've had the same pictures hosted at Photobucket for 6-7 years now, plus I add to it here and again. Never had a broken link. Maybe some people's account got deleted because of inactivity, or they manually deleted those pictures. I'm not sure how much of it is really PB's fault...

I have State Farm Homeowners Insurance. The amount of insurance is well above the value of my instruments. There is catch to this: the coverage essentially disappears if you play out. In that case, you have to obtain seperate insurance that covers theft, damage, breakage, etc. As a poster noted above, it is not very expensive. I am in the process of putting that in place.
