I need a DI to run my guitars and basses into my Emu 0404 soundcard and then into ableton. I use a combination of stomp boxes and software plugins to achieve my tone, and am having trouble deciding between these two DI's. I'm worried the additional tone controls on the Sansamp might be overkill when matched up with my software plugins...is this a valid concern? I play jazz/funk/hip hop and am about to invest in a Jazz bass fwiw.

Radial JDI vs. Sansamp Para Driver

Perhaps downloading and studying the manuals for the ParaDriver DI and the Radial JDI would be helpful.
I'm not sure, but I believe the amp simulator on the PDDI can be bypassed for a straight up DI box function.
On the other hand the Radial JDI might yield a more neutral tone (at the expense of comparative flexibility).
Another consideration would be other potential applications (live) and instruments (acoustic) which you may wish to use a DI for later on.

The JDI is a high quality DI. The Sansamp is really a preamp with an average quality DI builtin. Two really different boxes. The JDI will work fine with a passive bass in a recording situation since the cable lengths will be more moderate. For live use, you really want the J48 with passive instruments as it will perform better and consistently. Both the JDI and the J48 perform wonderfully and are two of the flattest, transparent DI's you can buy.
As for the Sansamp, it is a highly colored preamp that goes in the complete opposite direction of what Radial does which is provide a completely transparent DI. You might prefer that coloring, or not.

I have been using the Paradriver with both bass and upright, if you turn to 0 the blend you bypass the preamp, so it should not be colored anymore.
The question is: the quality of a paradriver used as simple DI is comparable to their active Radial counterparts (JD48 or PZ-DI)?
