Raising the p up height on an Epi Thunderbird?

Hi all! I've looked but found no results on how to raise the pickup height on a epi thunderbird if.

I noticed while setting up my bass that , when I tried to raise the pick ups, there didn't seem like a way to do so without installing something beneath them (such as foam, washers , or something else ).

I took the pickup screws out , but that just released the pickup and didn't raise it , as it would on , say an ibanez talman . The other basses I've messed with have springs under the pickup, but my thunderbird doesn't.

The neck pickup is 1/2 inch away from the strings , the bridge is 5/8ths . I've set the action and bridge (including the truss rod adjustment ) as low as I can before fret buzz. I'm running huge strings (135/100/70/60), so I had to set the bridge pretty high.

Does anyone have advice? I have searched the forums , but I haven't found anything. plan to take them out , then put something non conductive or ferrous to raise them.

Additionally , I'm trying to take the "mud" out of my sound . I realize a thunderbird doesn't have a particular bright sound to begin with , but I'm just trying to get all I can before I upgrade the pickups eventually . (Here's hoping for some mike lulls, lol).

I got a used bass, it was in a pretty good condition but the foams under the pickups were not functioning, they seemed melted and crushed so I replaced them. It is ok if I want to lower my pickup in the future but if I want to raise them I believe I will need to replace foams again because they seem to lose their elasticity in the long run.
Also, it was hard and expensive to order high density pickup foams so I used an exercise mat (6mm thickness), cut it to shape, used it as 3 layers as it was too thin get the height I wanted and they worked out perfectly. They are pretty easy to find, cheap (I got it for 2€~2.5 dollars) and big enough to meet your pickup foam needs in your life time
