Top(nissin) ramen tends to have better noodle texture than maruchan. There's even a brand called smack ramen sold in dollar stores that tends to have better noodles than maruchan as well. If I had to choose a flavor, it would either be chicken, oriental, or garden vegetable by nissin(top) though. I've eaten so much of the stuff that I've been sick of it for years. I'll avoid eating ramen as much as possible these days.

That's my point, it's not really, unless the price has fallen pretty drastically lately. It was typically over a buck a pound not long back, and the best I've been able to find now is still over $0.60/lb. for store brand 20# sacks on sale at Smart & Final.

Basmati was over two bucks a pound.

To put that in perspective, chicken quarters are typically $0.79/lb. on sale every few weeks.

Far cry from $3.99/50# long grain I used to get at the Arab bodegas in the Inner Mission about fifteen years ago. That's some inflation, brother!

You can get a quality 20 lb sack of rice (e.g. Cal Rose) at the Asian market (99 Ranch) for about $11 ($0.55/lb). They have cheaper but I usually stick with the Cal Rose.

With chicken, don't forget to factor out the bone weight.

If I could eat Calrose (glutenous) rice, I could beat that price at Smart & Final. Why Calrose is always a lot cheaper, I don't exactly understand, but it is, maybe because it's local.

[99 Ranch is always bloody expensive. Why, I dunno.]

Calrose is fine for sushi, but just as table rice, I pass. Too sticky.

I'm still trying to find Texmati locally as Basmati is too expensive to buy. It's about doubled in price in the past couple of years and stayed there.

Sure, but still...
