Currently can't afford the co-pay, but thanks for showing concern unless that was a backhanded way of saying I should have my head examined.:p

No I woulnd't do say that about you. Besides they wouldn't find anything.:p I hear what you are saying about the co-pay. I seldom get in other people's stuff here but this concerns me. If it is a problem and you don't catch it soon you will end up losing a lot more than your co-pay.

Why fly/drive when you can teleport/potato, bacon, cheese calzones are delicious.

Ive analyzed posts in OT today and determined you are hungry.

I actually have a standing appointment every three months with two doctors and plan on calling both issues to their attention. I've been sick for 10 years so this is no biggie.

Cue Sally Field: You like me! You really like me!:p

As a pilot I agree with you but there are others who don't.

Which is more a chopper car.

Actually I think in 25 or 30 years there will be flying cars but the occupants will only be passengers and there will be no pilots. Their will be a flight management autopilot that gets it's data stream from satellites and will take you from point A to point B safely. It will be programed to avoid other air traffic, bad weather and the such. If you take the human error out of the operation the system could work quite well.

Even with a totally automated system, you still need a place to land and take off. Short of some kind of VTOL vehicle capable of landing/ taking off without blowing crap everywhere, you will still need transport from the landing facility to your final destination. Even if a practical car/plane could be built you would still need to go someplace else before you went to your intended destination.

Other than that, or some type of arresting system that worked by catching an airplane at the instant of stall, without damage to the aircraft or arresting system, or some sort of anti grav system, I don't see how personal flying vehicles would ever be practical without a total remake of our entire transportation infrastructure.

Agreed, but there are over 19,000 airports in the US so a good portion of the population lives just a few miles from some type of airfield. Of those 19,000 airports, less than 500 airports have commercial airline service.

yeah I got to realise how many airports there were in the world playing X-plane 9, geekily enough. (The flight sim allegedly put airports everywhere there is some in real life, it has the map of the whole world, to scale...). I was always minutes away from a landing spot pretty much. There's exceptions probably when you fly over places like siberia or deserts but even then, i bet theres more landing strips in northern russia than we'd think. Not that flying cars would ever go there anyway...

Why do people flip out and buy bread and milk when snow is forecast? The supermarkets sell out fast. Did those folks grow up in the depression? Is there really an innate fear of running out of bread and milk? Why not buy steak and salads and peanut butter and tuna and cookies etc
