Hey Guys,

Just got this thing, it sounds fantastic and I haven't even begun to discover how good it can really sound. Anyway, in my confusion, I came up with a few questions. I haven't even touched the Gate/Expander yet, we'll see later what I do with that (not really a big gate fan, and I don't really know what the expander does). Where do you guys set your crossover at? Also, do you have any of the switches on the front pressed in? Obviously if I bypass the second channel I have no volume, but what about the first and the Slave switch? Any other suggestions for me? This thing is quite the beast.

If you're using it as a dual-band monophonic comp then you should not press in the slave switch. In fact IIRC the manual says that could cause damage. You can DL the manual from Rane, please read it. They actually write good manuals.

There's a bit in my FAQ about expanders. Basically it's compression in reverse, where the levels are increased in reaction to your incoming signal.

For the crossover, I like it around 100 - 150 Hz give or take.

Yeah, I just spent about an hour and half messing with it. I have the manual and read it. None of the buttons were depressed. I had the cross-over at about 400, I'll have to try it lower like that, see if I like it. What a beast of a comp though. Sounds great, but takes some time for sure. The Gates are good, but I just can't stand gates. Probably just leave them off. The high end was acting really strange for the first 5-10 minutes, I couldn't get the comp to stay on unless I turned the Thresshold way up. But then all of a sudden it worked fine. So I hope that doesn't happen again, if it does, somebody's gonna hear about it.
