I like the Craig version more than the Brosnan version precisely because it left the cheesy behind. It's still Bond. This Bond is growing into the Connery Bond. You'll see that gap filled when you see Skyfall.

I like Craig's Bond, though wasn't a fan of Quantum of Solace.
Casino Royale was great though (new one).

Wrong. If you have read the books, Bond describes himself as a "Scottish peasant" and Fleming did not write him as a polished sophisticate. 007 is an assassin. That's what he does, and why his job exists. Nothing sophisticated about it.
I was around the for the first Bond film and I have seen many of them, although I passed on many of the Roger Moore films, because they were too gimmicky and he played it for laughs.
Connery is the closest to Fleming's physical description of Bond (including a 'comma of dark hair" falling over his forehead). I rank him as easily the best all-time Bond. Brosnan at least played it seriously, but he's too pretty. I was prepared to dislike Craig, but he is extremely impressive and I rank him close behind Connery even though he's not a physical match to the written description of the character.
Connery's Scottish accent and physical description aside, I believe Daniel Craig's character to act truer to Fleming's Bond. He's dark and troubled.

Best Connery film - You Only Live Twice.
Best Moore film - Live And Let Die
Dalton and Lazenby never really had a proper run at it.
Best Brosnan film - dunno, they all sort of blend together into one huge mess. Brosnan was okay, but the other aspects of these films are pretty unmemorable.
Best Craig film - Casino Royale, by miles and miles. All the brouhaha about Skyfall has really surprised me, I thought it was meh at best.

I agree. Brosnan is sophisticated and has lots of cool gadgets. Craig is a cold-blooded assassin. For that reason, I dig Daniel Craig's version the most.

I wasn't a huge fan of Brosnan as Bond but I think Craig definitely plays Bond like Fleming wrote him. He's a shark in a suit and he is more a hammer than a scalpel.

Interesting. Not a lot of polls have Quantum above Casino, or very high at all for that matter.

That's actually how my parents introduced me to the series. It certainly was interesting to see how Bond evolved as a film character.
I really like The Living Daylights when it first was released. Probably it was in responce to the excesses of the last Moore films. On recent rewatches it hasn't passed the test of time.
My first favorite and first in the theatre was For Your Eyes Only. It seemed like an actual mission a space would get into as the premise wasn't too over the top.
Of the recent films Goldeneye. Multiple viewings of Skyfall are needed before I rank it.
What really has held up and moves up the list is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I don't think ABC played it its Sunday movies along with the Moore and Connery movies, or I just don't remember it. Anyway now it is my favorite from the early years
